sorry for the long delay....
I just spent the last 3 days walking across Tijuana... crossing the border on foot from San Ysidro to Tijuana and back is definitely on one of the top 100 things to do before I die.. so I did it.... its a unique experience...
Tijuana is a very interesting city... I would strongly recommend people to visit the city.. contrary to what images you have heard.. its opposite.. atleast in the part called the centro...
the US consulate (I went to get my H1 B visa) sadly is a joke... its a bureacratic nightmare.. the visa issual is very easy.. but things run sooo slow..i would definitely recommend international applicants to get their H1 B visas stamped there.. the whole interview process took me less than 2 minutes... if someone wants to PM me.. I will gladly give a complete write up of what to do...but make sure u havw a plenty of time..
I am off to Mexico city tonight and then continuing on my journey to Yucatan and.. then if I have some dough..to Guatemala and Honduras..
Best of luck to all the applicants and I am sure that you will do fine in the on/off campus interviews..
do not think of the interview as a make or break deal.. as per rhyme's words its another part of data collection..
pack warm clothes.. chicago is colder than hell (NC and KK. that applies for u Cali folks).
DO NOT BASE MY EXPERIENCE as the baseline for interviews.. there is a strong possibility that u may get the same interviewer since he is still working on the admissions committee.. (I found that out).....
to the rest of the folks who havent heard from GSb.. dont lose hope.. there is no CORRELATION between submitting app date and getting called in order...
I submitted my app of the deadline -1 day and got called on the first day of R1 interview invites..
