Are most of you just picking a mentor based on the profile posted or are you emailing the person in advance and asking to be their mentee?

I picked mine almost at random last year. My advice would be to send a brief email, see if they reply. If you can, do it now, cause once summer hits people are going to be busy with jobs.
But then again... one guy emailed me but he sent me a 2 page document on his background, interests, etc and specific areas he needs help with. Frankly, he sounded overwhelming and like he might be a ton of work....

Note to those of you picking mentors.... word to the wise - short emails are cool - find the right mentor for you.... nothing wrong with that. Multi-page long emails with your background asking me if I would like to be your mentor are a little daunting and scare me into thinking you are going to be a ridiculous amount of work.

Too funny!

Rhyme - do you think it is ok to start asking short/quick questions now or is the mentorship 'supposed' to begin next school year?

Sorry I missed this.... yea ask questions now. Theres no reason now to. Its an entirely voluntary role we sign up for, so people want (or they should anyway) to help

Thanks Rhyme!

Sorry about not updating the first page. I wasn't able to log-in for the longest time. Problem is solved now and yes, I am matriculating.

I need some help from those who live in Chicago (even those who are going to NW) about housing, Irish and rhyme have already gave their help.

What would you guys prefer:

1) Very close to Millennium park and Metra (but also close to fire fighters), 36th floor with view to MPark.
2) Lake shore east with North View 35th floor (Hancock and Navy Pier) - very new building.
3) The Corn Cob with South East view from the 52nd floor (No GSB community whatsoever, but I can start :-D )

Prices are very similar...

I may be closing the deal in the following days...

Pros? Cons?

Another question: is it allowed to go by bike in the Metra?

Hey Kwam, bikes are allowed on the Metra in the summer, when no other special events are going on. So I'm not sure, but I bet you wouldn't be allowed to do so if the Sox are playing at home.

I already voted but....For what its worth, begin close to fire fighters is not a big deal, you get used to it. Get accustomed to some noise downtown. Its just part of living in a big city. Not to mention, the corn cob towers aren't far from a firehouse either - maybe 2 to 3 blocks. There's one on illinois or grand i believe.
