I am not sure how Columbia uses their WL during the ED round, but they have the reputation of using it to control yield normally. If its your top school just make sure you make that clear to your WL manager.

Hmm .. as for why I felt I would get waitlisted at Col ..

Well, I received my interview call very quickly (Compared to others). So when I saw that after the interview, my status was again changed quickly (Within a week of interview,) I kinda knew that Col was going just too quick on my application. As if they know exactly what to do with my application. If Col wanted to admit or deny a student, it would have spent more time on the application. I feel that my application was supposed to go to "waitlist" just as it was reviewed.

Anyway, putting my "optimism cap" on, if Col had accepted me, then I would have a tiny regret of falling for my first love and not evaluating schools based on fit. Now Col has kinda said to me, "Hey, give your best shot at other schools, then see where you get selected .. and then make an informed decision. Don't just sign up for Col and not try out other schools."

Optimism cap off. Darn, if I had an admit, I could start working on my future goals. Now I've gotta stay in the admission race for many more months :(

We feel your pain..

I do not think CBS taking so fast on ur application shows anything about ur background. You did not start the season with a ding.. that is a confidence booster...

Just hope that things will turn around better..and u get into Wharton and then snub CBS by waving the offer letter to them

Extremely sorry to hear about this mNeo. I was sure that you would get in. At least its better than me, still waiting for any kind of news from Columbia. I can smell a J-Term ding....

Don't be disheartened by a waitlist, I am positive that you will be one of the first few to get accepted, once someone pulls out, simply because you would be one of the first few to get wait listed.

mNeo
Got a change in status (Wow these guys are very quick when it comes to working on my application -- I got a change of status within a week of interviewing).

I've been waitlisted. I kinda knew that I'd be waitlisted. Darn .. I would have loved to get an admit there. Oh well, time to look at other schools while Columbia "compares me with the larger pool".

Once again, this entire process eludes me.

BW forum is blaming the deadly silence on CBS waiting to see the quality of applicants before ED gets over day after tomorrow - its been a weird experience no doubt.

I wake up every morning inspired by mNeo's lightning fast decision process performed by CBS... look at my static application page, give a sigh,, mentally get ready for a ding and go back to sleep

MNeo, this excerpt from the chat would particularly interest you.

Michael, where in the admissions process does an invitation to interview place you? Does it mean someone has a good chance of making it , if they interview well?

MichaelRobinsonColumbia (Sep 26, 2007 1:13:04 PM)
We interview about 40% of our applicants. Receiving an invitation for an interview is a positive development in your application, but keep in mind we do admit some people without an interview every year.

I can't check the status from my office - it's really slow. and I have trouble accessing the columbia webpage today.

I've resorted to checking my inbox AND my spam folder, just in case the email gets trashed by the system... but sad to say, I have no news. so i sigh and go back to trolling gmatclub, b/week and craiglist.... :(

i'm mentally prepped for a ding.

an admit would see me deliriously happy...

Thanks guys. And all the best to those still waiting for their results. Who knows, the wait may turn out to be better for you in the end (See what happens to my application which had the fastest turn-around :). Oh well, I still am optimistic that my 'waitlist' will turn to an 'admit' in Jan. )

Just make sure that you do not obsess about this application, and lose valuable app time for other schools in the process. BTW, bsd_lover, what apps are you working on now? Princeton?

So, mNeo... you got waitlisted despite having a 770 GMAT, as well as a very solid undergrad, work history, and community work?

That's hard to understand. What do you think was the problem?

That my friend along with "what women want" are the eternal million dollar questions

If mNeo knew the problem, I guess he wouldnt be on the board posting his waitlist. I am sure no one can give you a good answer on this one. At least not me.

Question for the forum: The deadline for early decision says October 10th. Does that mean 11:59PM on October 9th (tonight) or 11:59PM on October 10th?

Hi mNeo,

I got an e-mail saying that my application status has changed (it was 'under review' until now). However when I logged in, in my excitement / nervousness, I accidentally pressed the 'new application' button (god knows why it was still there). Now I don't know what my status is, since it has started a brand new application.

Rubbish website with zero usability yes, but what could the next status change be ? When you got your interview call, was it via an personalised e-mail or was it via a status change on the web site ?

Was this a status change straight after the status of 'under review' ?

This could mean that potentially I am sitting either on an interview call or a ding, and I wont know until they open up tomorrow. Why did this have to happen today ???

I am on the edge trying to finalize my Wharton app !!! ...

mNeo
Yeah, via change of status

Yes, straight after "under review". Wow, really bad time to "start a new application", eh? Anyway, focus on your Wharton application. You'll get a result either way tomorrow morning anyway. All the best !!
