Crazy but I got an interview only a few days ago. I'm really unclear on how the process is working but there seems to still be hope...

I suppose there is some measure of hope. I was one of the unlucky ones that got a ding without interview letter from Yale this morning after a lengthy silence. Can't help but think that bodes poorly for prospects of receiving a Haas invite this late in the game.

FROM Haas Admissions Blog: Many Happy Returns: Long-Term ROI on the Berkeley MBA, Part I
Against the backdrop of frequent stories about the financial return-on-investment of b-school, we wondered about other benefits of the degree that contribute to professional success and personal satisfaction. In this three-part series, we asked several Berkeley-Haas alums for a different kind of MBA ROI—how their Berkeley-Haas studies and degrees have affected their lives in the longer term.

Name and degree:
Beau Giannini, class of 1994

Lives in: Tiburon, CA

Works in: San Francisco, CA

Position prior to Haas and position today: “Before coming to Haas to study in the Evening & Weekend MBA Program, I was running my own print and promotional products company. Since getting my degree, I’ve done a ton of different things. Right now I’m a capstone professor of entrepreneurship and startups in the MBA program at Presidio Graduate School. I’m also a fifth-year PhD candidate in economics and management technology at a Tongji University in Shanghai."

"And for fun, I started an organic snack food company.”

How his MBA has improved his career: “I was a Chinese major from Dartmouth with some experience in international markets. My business degree gave me the confidence to go out and really work globally, knowing that I have this incredible institution and a very strong network behind me. It opened a lot of doors, largely because of the strength of the Haas brand.”

Most rewarding aspects of life today: “Learning from top professors at one of the world’s leading universities has given me the confidence to think more creatively, to take risks, and compete. I’ve been able to travel around China and when I meet with other Haas alums, there’s an immediate comfort level. The school attracts a very progressive, internationally minded student.”

Other ways in which his Berkeley degree has impacted his life: “My wife also holds a Berkeley MBA, so we share that special experience. And I now have a son at Berkeley as well, so Cal is definitely running through our veins. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Berkeley community, and specifically Haas. The core principles and that rich community have really added value to my career and my life by allowing me the freedom to dream up and launch innovative business ideas.”

Do you want more freedom to dream up and launch innovative business ideas?

I also got an interview invite today. I am local (SF Bay Area) and Consortium applicant, BTW.

Interview slots on campus were offered to me through Thursday 3/5.

Looks like the admissions office is still working through applications! Keep hope alive fellow MBA-hopefuls!

Sadly, I am inclined to agree with you. It seems like it's reasonable to conclude that most of this last batch were from the bay area. Perhaps they are trying to squeeze in a few last interviews with those who are able to schedule with only a week's notice.

Is there any possibility that the March 10 deposit deadline for Round 1 might have an effect on interview invitations? Or is that deadline only relevant to those currently on the Round 1 waiting list?

On the subject of interviews and notifications, I also had a question.

Has everybody received their "application ready for review" email? My application status does list "Application Under Review" online, but I never received a confirmation email.

Anybody else in the same boat?

Thanks in advance!

I received it on Feb 19. Still says Application Under Review.

Also consider that admissions decisions for Consortium applicants must be made ASAP. The admissions officers from the various Consortium member schools meet in mid-March to decide whether to offer fellowships, which means that admissions decisions for Consortium applicants must be made before mid-March. Therefore, it is possible that the batch of interview invites from yesterday were primarily for Consortium applicants. Given that non-Consortium applicants are not subject to this timeline restriction caused by the fellowship decisions, it is possible that interview invites will continue into next week for non-Consortium applicants.

This is just my speculation and hopefully provides hope to folks still waiting.

My guess would be that, barring some drastically different outcome from years prior, it probably wouldn't have much of an effect. I'd imagine that the larger effect would be on the percentage of folks that get in after being given an interview.

Has anyone who has completed an interview noticed a change to their status on their application page? Mine went back to "Application Under Review" but it read "Interview and Review" last week. I completed my interview last week so I'm assuming that this means that my interviewer submitted their report and now it's back under review?
