Essay questions are already out for Sauder, and applications just opened up two weeks ago (never too early to start working on those applications!)

Short Form Questions (200 words max)
- What are your motivations to pursue an MBA?
- What excites you about the UBC MBA Program? How do you plan to get the most out of this journey?

Long Form Question (500 words max)
- The UBC MBA program prepares leaders who seek to create value for the world. Please describe a situation in which you created value for an organization or group. What was the outcome? We encourage you to consider your contributions in both professional and community settings.

Video Essay (60-90s long)
- Our students and alumni often describe their MBA experience as a transformational discovery of themselves. How do you see yourself being transformed by the UBC MBA program?
* Videos must be uploaded to YT/Vimeo as unlisted

Alright! Thanks

I was a little concerned because those questions were same for last year. So was wondering if they might change it midway.

Any pointers/guidelines they have provided for the video essay?

Hi Tanupreet, kindly get in touch with the admission committee, send you resume and see whether you are fit for the college. Please bear in mind the deadline before applying, although the applications are considered on a rolling basis so would suggest you to apply asap.

Why we need a separate thread for Aug19 intake when I already have one running here?... https://gmatclub.com/forum/calling-saud ... l#p2115605

I am merging both threads into each other.

Just got my invitation for a Skype interview this Nov. 2 (so close)! Submitted my application Oct. 22, so it's only been a little over a week and I was expecting to wait much longer.

Very nervous though but hopefully it will go well. Wish me luck...

Just did my interview via Skype with someone named Liz. Apparently she does Skype interviews exclusively, so international applicants may get her as well. If you're doing your interview on-campus, it will probably be with the other admissions people.

These were the questions I could remember off the top of my head (YMMV):
1) Why a UBC MBA at this point in your career
2) Thing you're looking forward to the most in the program
3) Short term/long term career goals + what do you plan to do with your MBA
4) Greatest achievement and biggest mistake (preferably professional)
5) A few situational questions:
- What if you were working in a group of 5 people, and there is one person who is clearly not pulling their weight (submitting shoddy work, or submitting work late). How would you deal with that?
- Suppose everyone is putting in their effort now, but someone in your group has a very different opinion on how a certain business problem should be solved. What do you do?
6) Questions for the interviewer?

Overall it was pretty straightforward, and interview lasted around 30 mins. I asked about current turnaround time and she said 3 weeks, which is expected considering it's that time of the year. Now for the wait...

Oof, just got denied with interview on Nov. 13 unfortunately. About two weeks between when I first interviewed and when I got the news.

I'm sure this year's batch of applicants are really top notch, and my GMAT is slightly lower than the 650 average to begin with. So that coupled with my lack of experience (again, slightly lower than the average 4 years because they do not count experience gained prior to graduation) meant the odds were really stacked against me despite my being an alumni of the school. They do not count experience gained even through a co-op program which was a big grey area for me since a lot of the work experience I had was through co-op and I managed to turn one of those internships into a full time position after graduation (so the time I spent with the company before I graduated, which was a good 8 months, wasn't counted). I also don't really fit the profile of people who tend to apply for Sauder so I was probably too much of an anomaly.

That being said when I look back on things, I can't stress enough the need to have clearly defined career goals. The interview is designed to suss out if you have the conviction to achieve your career goals and it's hard to be fired up about them if well, your career goals were some BS you came up with to convince admissions you're a star candidate.

Good luck to those who have applied and kudos to those who have been admitted. :)

I had an interview today with Kevin Ly. Here are some questions he asked.
-What do you think your strengths are?
-What are things that other people do not know about you and you wish to share with admission board??
-What are you going to do with the MBA degree? Give specific professional goals
-If there is a book about your life, what the main lesson that you wish to learn from the book? And what is the name of the book you want it to be?
-What do you wish to learn/get from this program?
