guys... thanks for the positive note... I kind of guessed I was headed to another W/L, since all the UCLA dings happened on monday/tuesday..

I am taking inspiration from all u folks.. guess, my app wasnt that bad to get into the waste basket.. I definitely plan to go drinking and partying now.. getting W/L is a jaded experience for me..hehehehehe

river, that is the main reason why i decided to reapply next year, so that my work exp gets built up...

I agree with river .. lack of experience is something that can easily be fixed (Unlike too much experience / age). Avi, how old are you and how many years of experience do you have?

ok I am 28 yrs old...

undergrad at 22

masters in civil engineering - 24 (did RA work, does not count that as WE technically, but I worked with FedEx as a consultant)

Masters in Engineering Management (focus on Operations Research) - 26... major work with UPS,, but again as RA..

slogging at KPMG.. touching 2 years..by the time I "hopefully" go to school this year, I shall have about more than 2.5 years..

I know that my work exp is really on the low side, but I chose to apply now, coz I felt it was the right time to do so...guess I have to wait a little longer or keep on writing love letters...

Sorry to hear that Avi! (sent you an email) :(

But trust me, your essays are one of the BEST I've read so far, and it really sells your qualities well. Your GMAT and GPA are above the school's averages, and your rec letters and stuff are all good. I truly believe it's your 1.5-2.5 year experience that's hurting you right now, which is why they W/L you instead of dinging you. They're seeing, "Wow, what a great candidate! But we have a soft requirement of 2 years work experience. Hrm... Maybe we should W/L him and see if he sends us more proof of his abilities or see how he compares with the other rounds. We should probably be able to find a space for him!" :)

I'm also pretty sure (unless the application volume is truly as insane as people predict this year) that you will get into at least 1 of your W/L, probably GSB and UCLA (I want to keep you on the West Coast, but then again, if I get into Kellogg, maybe Chicago would be cool too! :P). Just hang in there, and we'll support you!!!

(maybe I'll go have a talk with the adcoms when I'm at Anderson Days to scold them for not accepting you immediately! :P)

So this is an interesting post on B-Week. Someone got this email from UCLA today. Looks like UCLA is looking for a little more time on some applicants...

'As you likely know, today is the day for the release of our Round
1 admission decisions. However, in your case we have requested
additional information which our admissions committee still needs
a little time to consider. You can expect to receive a decision
on your application as soon as our evaluation is complete.'

oh i got dinged too. no surprise here. when i got the email, i glanced at it for 2 seconds and deleted it. i have been mentally prepared for this outcome for 3 months now anyway. :)

Round Two Sets a Record at UCLA
The round two waiting game is well underway at other schools as well. At UCLA Anderson, no one seems to have received an invite yet. According to a post on the BusinessWeek discussion forum by an applicant who attended a campus information session last week, the Anderson admissions office is reporting that this year’s second round set a record for applicants in a single round – 1,800 – and that overall applications are up 22 percent.

...........and to think at one time I thought of UCLA as backup :( I am sooooooo screwed

Just did a quick review of the recent class profiles from UCLA

2005 - 2,520
2006 - 2,609
2007 - 3,151
2008 - 3,900??

The only thing stopping the school from moving into the Top 10 is it's crappy website :)
