Hi. Currently doing BBA from a public university in Bangladesh. I want to join top MIM's such as HEC paris, ESSEC or LBS right after graduation. As per my research they don't require work exp but still most of the students seems to complete internship before joining the course. In my town, there is little emphasis on prior graduation, and even if such opportunities exist, the quality of work experience may not align with my desired career path after completing my Master's in Management (MIM).

I was thinking about publishing papers on banking and finance as I want to join a front office finance role upon graduation.

  •  Do you think it could be alternative to internships?
  • Will it put equivalent weight to internships in the application

Hi jayzeeVV2,

The Admissions Committee looks up at internships because it allows applicants to learn business skills which might come in handy during the course tenure. Hence, we also recommend that internships will be a viable option in your case. Your research papers will surely be an asset to your applications but it will not bring out the impact as internships do.

Do connect with our postgraduate team for a further detailed discussion to find an alternate course of action. You can book a free profile evaluation consultation call here.

Yes, provided:

1. You work on a deep problem, and present impactful findings, (and)
2. Spend 2 - 3 months of full time effort on this, preferably affiliated with an organization of standing - either in the corporate world, or with a research university/government.
3. More points if you find avenues to demonstrate leadership and teamwork - though I don't expect you to have that kind of exposure through this avenue.

Best,
Karthik

Hello jayzeeVV2,

Thanks for writing in.

Publishing papers will definitely be value-adding; however, this will not prove to be an alternative to doing an internship; both activities in question have their own importance and one cannot replace the other. Internships provide one exposure on the professional front and have their own value.

Our suggestion would be for you to do the best that you can given the limited opportunities in and around your hometown; make your essays compelling and focus on getting a strong test score.

Hope this helps.

All the best!
