I jokingly tell people that I approached the MBA application the same way I approached recruiting for jobs as a non-target student. I networked my way in.
Who would have thought that approach worked for B school as well. I remember spending every day checking mba live wire and scrolling through countless articles on sites like this and others, over stressing myself about everything.
I spent close to 2 years studying for my gmat, ended up with a 670. I went to an admissions event and heard about the EA, and took that 2 weeks before submitting my application and got an extremely high score (my thesis is that I took it for fun and was not stressed at all about it - I had a gmat scheduled 2 days after and was just taking the EA to see what happens)
Every consultant I spoke with, but 1, said to not even apply and to prep my application for the following year.
But, I’m pretty stubborn (non-target mentality) and felt I had something to prove. So I tried my best to convey my story and made sure admissions gave my application a detailed thought and not a quick glance.
I’d love to help out in any way! The networking process will work for any school, and any grad program. The key is to get current students to refer you to admissions. Check our my detailed article to learn the exact steps and process on how to do it! Please let me know if you have any questions!
