I think the answer is D because the decimals cannot be even or odd also the number x=3 So only integer greater than 1 but less than 3 is 2 so that is sufficient
In statement 2 the difference between the prime # always being 1 is only 2 and 3 so that is also sufficient
Correct me if i am wrong

Hi,
You are correct on one aspect but relook in the answer.
It is nowhere mentioned in statement I or main Q that y is an integer and y can take any value between 1 and 3..

It's only B

Statement 1 nowhere mentions the nature of y whether integer or fraction

Statement 2 says x and y are prime nos with diff 1
There exists only 1 set of consecutive prime nos ie 2&3 and prime nos are always integers
Therefore statement 2 is alone sufficient and the answer option is B

If x >y>1, is y an even number?
(1) x=3.
(2) x and y are prime numbers with a difference of 1.

answer is B...

A. Y can be 2.5 - not even
2- even
not suff

B.as x and y is prime number , they are definitely integer. Y will be equal to 2

(1) No information if y is integer or not. Insufficient.
(2) Only 2 primes exist that are consecutive: 2 and 3, that gives us understanding that y is an integer. Sufficient.
Answer B.

If x >y>1, is y an even number?
(1) x=3.
(2) x and y are prime numbers with a difference of 1.

We are given that x > y > 1, and we need to determine whether y is even.

Statement One Alone:

x = 3

Since we do not know the value of y, statement one is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:

x and y are prime numbers with a difference of 1.

Since x and y are both prime, x is greater than y, and the different between x and y is 1, x must be 3 and y must be 2. Thus, y IS an even number.
