i applied ED on 9/26 as well, and still haven't heard anything. i'm applying for a dual degree, and am already in my first year at another columbia school. all i can say is that this forum is making me quite anxious!

I don't understand Columbia's rolling admissions system now. I thought it meant that everyone who applied earlier would be given some sort of feedback (interview/ding) before those who applied later are considered. But clearly that is not what Columbia is doing. There are folks who applied on Oct 3 and have got interview invites, and there are others who applied in the last week of Sep and are still waiting to hear. If someone applies earlier, and AdCom sits on their application in order to see how the rest of the applicants are, before they take a decision on the earlier applicant, I think it totally beats the purpose of ED. They could just call it a R1 and ask everybody to submit by a certain date and start evaluating applicants after everbody's got their file in.

Rolling admissions means they look (open) applications the order in which they recieved. The fact that there isn't ding means, that they liked the application somewhat and are holding on to the application so that they can look at more applications to get some idea of their pool.

Exactly. Rolling only means applications are looked at for the first time in the order they are received. It doesn't mean decisions will be rendered in that order too.

So basically someone with a more run-of-the-mill profile who applies earlier in the process has no real advantage in the game. They would anyways get benchmarked against the stronger candidates.

So the only advantage between ED and RD is that in RD one's chances (irrespective of their profile) is relatively lower because some candidates are already in.

For run-of-the-mill profiles, I do think there is some advantage because not as many people want the commitment of ED.
Remember, some of the stellar profiles (who know that they are stellar) do apply to HSW schools as well and they want the flexibility/choice after the admission, which doesnt come with ED.

So ED gives some (if only slight) advantage for the regular joes like us, since the expectation is that only those that have CBS as their #1 apply -- that is the limiting factor on # of apps.

Hi Everyone, I submitted my application on Sep 21, but my 2nd Rec Letter was submitted on Sep 27. So which day should be counted as the "submission date"?

I still haven't heard back anything yet....but I am not based in US. Anyone applied late Sep from Europe or Asia received their interview invite?

Hi, I got an invitation to interview on friday this week. I work in Singapore and would be traveling to Bangkok on a business trip starting 28th Oct. The invite says that its best to schedule the interview as early as possible. Should I request an interviewer in Bangkok? DO you guys think that interviewing at a completely new location will affect the interview outcome?

Thinking of dropping a line to adcom as well. Any Suggestions?

Making the leap from trading to impact investing may not be as hard as you think . . .
I work for a large brokerage/advisory firm and I'm part of a small team that's working to grow the opportunity for our clients to do impact investing in their brokerage accounts.

Has anyone that applied Regular Decision actually heard back? One person with the RD round R1 designation appears to have received information, but this maybe an incorrect designation. I applied 9/24/12 regular decision and have not heard anything.

According to the site, RD apps won't be reviewed until Dec 1. I would guess you probably won't hear back until then, at the earliest.

He-he, after paying the bill I checked their syllabus and realized that it's going to be a hard time, especially for those who has no financial background or training. Honestly, I started working on my accounting and finance skills. It's not so pleasant at all though interesting. Can anyone of the admitted students login to the web-site for admitted students?

Hi guys
I have a question since it's a little bit stressful to wait for the interview invitation and have to check mailbox so often.
I submitted my application in the last minute of ED round and my status on the website is always "submitted". If I won't suppose to get an interview, will my status change to "denied" or something else to let me know game is over?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

has anyone been paying attention or have any additional insight as to what time of day the interview invites have been sent out? it might help everyone to know so we don't all constantly check our inboxes.
