(2) 500 of the employees in Subsidiary Y have an average salary of $40,000, and the other 500 have an average salary of $55,000.

Situation A) Subsidiary X total salary is $50,000,000.00. -> the average of Subsidiary X salary is $50,000,000/1000 employees = $50,000. but doesn’t have any information for Subsidary Y, therefore, not sufficient.
Situation B) Total 1000 employees, subsidiary Y average salary is ($40,000+$55,000)/2 = $47,500. But doesn’t have any information on Subsidiary X, therefore, Not sufficient.
Together, Subsidary X average = $50,000 and Subsidary Y average = $47,500. The average of the company M can be calculated by (Ave X + Ave Y)/2. Therefore sufficient.
