How does marking work in DI question if i get 1 wrong out of 3 will all 3 be considered incorrect or i will get marks for 2 only ?

Bunuel
If you are talking of one question with three options as in Table analysis, then getting even one option marked wrongly would mean entire question is wrong.

However, in MSR, there are three questions, and each of these three question will be considered separately.

Hi maxro3x, the selection criteria are given for the posts in general, and it does not specify that the requirements are only for this year.

Maybe, the wordings would, otherwise, be : the requirements for the posts this year were:-

50 vacancies
Number of vacancies for Senior: S
Number of vacancies for Junior: J
J + S = 50

100 applicants
=> 25% did not meet the criteria
=> 75 left, of which
      + J: 2 candidates per vacancy
      + S: 1 candidate per vacancy
      ==> 2J + 1S = 75

J + S = 50
2J + S = 75
==> J = 25; S = 25

S:
+) J at Z for 5y
+) >= 85% in postgrad studies

J:
+) >=80% in postgrad studies
+) PhD
+) either (1) 2y in gov. roles or (2) 3y in a private firm
+) never applied in Z

1. For each of the following statements, select Yes if the question can be answered based on the information in the passage. Otherwise, select No.

How many vacancies were there for senior scientists? => Yes
S = 25

Did Allen score higher than Brian in their postgraduate studies? => No
Only know that Allen scores more than 85% and Brian scores more than 80%

Will Allen have more than twice the work experience at Company Z compared to Brian after four years, assuming both joined their respective positions at the same time? => Yes
After 4 years, Allen has at least 5 + 4 = 9 years at Z
After 4 years. B has only 4 years at Z (becauze Z should never haved worked at Z before)

9 > 2 * 4

2. For each of the following statements, select Yes if, according to the information provided, the statement is true. Otherwise select No.

Allen holds a doctorate degree. => Yes
Allen is a Senior while even a Junior is required to have PhD degree.

Moreover, the requirement for Junior is to have worked at J (this is not so strong though since the requirements might differ from time to time)

Brian has at least two years of experience in a government job. => No
Brian can either have 2 yoe in a gov. job or 3 yoe in a private firm

One-third of the candidates who took the written exams for either positions were not selected. => Yes
Only 50 vacancies whereas there are 100 applicants
==> 1/2 are not selected

3. How many candidates applied for the senior scientist position and took the written examination? [25]

Each applicant meeting the requirements underwent written exams
25 did not meet the criteria
==> 75 took the written examination

As per the above calculation, of the 75 applicants, 25 applied for Senior (1:1 candidiate to vacancy ratio)

Q1- Statement 3,,,, how can we say that Allen have more than two times the work experience in Company Z as compared to Brian? It is talking about total work ex not work ex as a junior scientist... Also for Junior scientist, one should have work ex of 2 years.
chetan2u
Q.1.
(a) How many vacancies existed for Senior scientists?
We know that in the written examination, there were two candidates for each vacancy of junior scientist. If the vacancies for senior and junior scientists are J and S respectively, we can say J+S = 50.
But 2J and S sat down for written examination => 2J+S=75
From the above two equations, we get J=25, so S=25....YES

(b) Had Allen scored more than Brian in post graduation?
We know for Junior scientists, at least 80% is required while for senior scientists at least 85% is required. However, we do not have any information to suggest that Brian did not score more than 85% or more than Allen...NO

(c) After four years, will Allen have more than two times the work experience in Company Z as compared to Brian, if both joined in respective posts at the same time?
We know Allen has served for 5 years in the company as Junior scientist for sure, so after 4 years, the time taken by Allen will be 9yrs minimum and by Brian 4 years. So the time of Allen is at least 9/4 or 2.25 times...YES

Q.2.
(a) Allen had a doctorate degree: We know Allen has been selected as Senior Scientist, for which a person should have worked as a junior scientist in the same company. The requirement of a Junior scientist in the company is to have a Doctorate degree. Hence Yes
(b) Brian had at least 2 years experience in a government job: The requirement for a Junior scientist is 2 years experience in a government job or 3 years experience in private. Hence we cannot be sure. Hence, No
(c) One-third of those who gave either of the written examinations were not selected for the applied posts
Out of 100 candidates, 25% did not meet the criteria, and hence only 75 candidates gave a written examination. We further know that 100% seats, that is 50 vacancies, were filled up. Thus 75-50 or 25, which is 1⁄3 of 75, did not get selected...YES

Q.3. We know that in the written examination, there were two candidates for each vacancy of junior scientist. If the vacancies for senior and junior scientists are J and S respectively, we can say J+S = 50.
But 2J and S sat down for written examination => 2J+S=75
From the above two equations, we get J=25, so S=25.

1.c. How do we know allen had worked in company z before, he could have worked somewhere else. and they've asked for the experience in company z alone
2.c 25 people didn't get selected yes but they've asked for either positions we don't know whether they were equally distributed

1. Note that the senior scientist position requires 5 years of experience at Company Z. Meanwhile. the junior scientist position is for candidates who have never applied for any position at Company Z. So Allen has at least 5 years of Z-specific experience, while Brian has none. In 4 years, then, at minimum Allen will have 9 years to Brian's 4.

2. This bothered me, too, and the wording could be clearer ("either positions" is not correct). However, it's not saying "for each position." So all it really means is that 1/3 of the total 75 who took written exams did not get selected, and that's true.
Also, we do know the distribution. 75 people qualified. Of these, we had 2 for each junior position and 1 for each senior position, for a total of 50 positions. That's 2j+s = 75 and j+s = 50, so j=25 and s=25. That means the acceptance rates were 50% for junior and 100% for senior. (This was another bit that could have been worded more clearly. We're apparently meant to figure that "candidate" means an applicant who met the criteria, but this is never spelled out.)
