Hi GMAT Club
When solving GMAT questions, I have noticed that I have a unique error type that I am repeating over and over again without noticing. I seem to take note of boundary conditions, but forget to apply them later on in the question. I'll give an example of this error in the form of a simple OG GMAT quant DS question.
(NB I'm not looking for the solution to the quant question, I'm looking for help with my error type)Question promptWhat is the remainder when the positive integer x is divided by 6?
(1) When x is divided by 2, the remainder is 1; and when x is divided by 3, the remainder is 0.
(2) When x is divided by 12, the remainder is 3.
My approach on my pad, I note down the following:
(1) "X must be odd"
"X is a multiple of 3"
I then start listing the multiples of 3 and work out what the remainders are when each is divided by 6 - and here is where I make my error.
I forget the fact that x is odd and start testing both ODD and EVEN multiples of 3.I find this very frustrating and I would really appreciate anyone's advice on how I can resolve this error type?
Thanks!
