For Question 2, I selected option A because it states ???with insufficient regard??? to whether there is enough room for economic growth to allow such an increase without causing inflation ??? meaning no regard, so no concern.

Regarding option C, it refers to ???economic policies,??? which can include a wide range of areas beyond the deficit, such as taxation. It does not say ???some economic policies???; it says ???sometimes careless,??? but the full scope of economic policy still remains. Therefore, I eliminated C.

I agree with the explanation that was provided, but my concern is that during the exam it will be very difficult to select option C. How do I avoid such mistakes? I feel I am not learning effectively from my mistakes when the differences between choices are very subtle.

Hi,

You are not wrong to say that A) and C) are close. One way to help address this is to have a repeatable step by step process that helps you eliminate trap answers on solid reasoning.

1. Always try to synthesize the meaning of the RC as an author's main point form (this will also give you a checkpoint on your understanding of the passage)
2. Having an already jotted down form of main point will help you match an option closest to that, as compared to starting from the options without pre thinking the main point yourself first
3. If a choice uses a word that feels broad, as long as the passage criticized that approach in the same scope, it should be okay to accept it.
4. When you get a question wrong, try to error-log it, with correct vs your selected answer, reasoning that led you to reject the right answer and choose the incorrect one, and steps such as the above that you can follow for future questions to avoid making such mistakes

Hope this helps!
