Hi:

I have been trying to visualise 'b' on the RHS in the point-intercept equation Y=mx+b. Specifically, I get confused as to when to assign value to b on the RHS or Y on the LHS, also unable to visualise it on a X-Y coordinate plane. Please could you help me understand this.

hi,
b is nothing but the y-intercept on x-axis..
so value of y is b when x=0..
and when y = 0, x=-b/m..

Now you can join these points to get the required line..

Is this you wanted to know or there is something else to it.

In addition to what chetan2u has mentioned above, the equation of a line in 2 different formats is as follows:

Standard (or slope-intercept form) form : y=mx+b with x-intercept (with y=0) = -b/m and y-intercept (with x=0) =b

Intercept form: x/A + y/B = 1, where A and B are x and y intercepts with A = -b/m and B=b

So once you have the 2 intercepts above, you can create a line by joining the 2 points representing the intercepts as mentioned above.
