Hi,
I plan to take the Gmat test in the current version but my concern is by the time when the Focus Edition comes into place how the scores of the current version be considered by the B-schools? Will any preference be given to the students who take the Focus Edition? And, what about the recruiters? Would they give any preference to the new version of the test which is the Focus one? I am totally confused. Please clarify.
Thanks!
Hi
poojaarora1818,
GMAT scores remain valid for a duration of five years from the date of the test. Business schools have not discontinued the existing exam; rather, they have expanded their acceptance criteria to include the new GMAT Focus Edition. As long as your scores are within the valid timeframe, which applies to all these exam formats, business schools will consider and accept them without any issues. The same also applies to recruiters.
One suggestion I'd add here is to try to score decently in the IR section of the current GMAT version: some candidates tend to not pay much attention to or even ignore IR, as it doesn't count towards the total score. As the new Focus Edition includes a new "Data Insights" section (IR + Data Sufficiency from Quant) which counts towards the total overall Focus Edition score, recruiters and B-schools might look at IR going forward to compare two candidates with GMAT current and GMAT Focus scores. This is my hypothesis and might not necessarily happen, but having said that, it's better to be safe than sorry.
