A group of 1,000 people filing for unemployment were asked to provide information about their age and education level. Refer to the Venn diagram below of the survey results. Each symbol represents 10 people in the sample of 1,000.

For the given sample 0f 1000,

No High School Diploma; < 55 years = 90 .............................................(1)
No High School Diploma; > 55 years = 40 .............................................(2)
High School Diploma; > 55 years = 30 .............................................(3)

thus, High School Diploma; < 55 years = 1000- (90+40+30) = 840 .........(4)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total sample = 1000
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. Out of the entire sample, the probability that a randomly chosen person over age 55 has no high school diploma is __________.

A. 1 out of 4
B. 3 out of 4
C. 4 out of 7
D. 7 out of 16

Persons over age 55 = 70
> 55 years; No High School Diploma = 40

Probability = 40/70 = 4/7

(C) is the CORRECT answer

III. Out of the entire sample, the probability that a randomly chosen person with no high school diploma is over the age of 55 is__________.

A. 1 out of 4
B. 4 out of 9
C. 4 out of 13
D. 9 out of 16

Persons No High School Diploma = 130 (ie, 90+40)
No High School Diploma; > 55 years; = 40

Probability = 40/130 = 4/13

(C) is the CORRECT answer

(C), (C) are the CORRECT answers to questions (i) , (II), respectively

I. Out of the entire sample, the probability that a randomly chosen person over age 55 has no high school diploma is _.

Total number of People Over the age 55 = 70 = 7(number of symbol)*10(1 symbol= 10 people)
Out of these people having no high school diploma =40= 4(number of symbol)*10(1 symbol= 10 people)
Probability= \(\frac{40}{70}\) =\( \frac{4}{7}\)
A. 1 out of 4
B. 3 out of 4

C. 4 out of 7
D. 7 out of 16

A group of 1,000 people filing for unemployment were asked to provide information about their age and education level. Refer to the Venn diagram below of the survey results. Each symbol represents 10 people in the sample of 1,000.

I. Out of the entire sample, the probability that a randomly chosen person over age 55 has no high school diploma is __________.

A. 1 out of 4
B. 3 out of 4

C. 4 out of 7
D. 7 out of 16

Solution:
Number of people over 55 - 7*10 - 70
People over 55 with no diploma - 4*10 - 40
Hence probability is 40/70 - 4 out of 7

II. Out of the entire sample, the probability that a randomly chosen person with no high school diploma is over the age of 55 is__________.

A. 1 out of 4
B. 4 out of 9

C. 4 out of 13
D. 9 out of 16

Solution:

Total sample of people with no diploma - 13*10 - 130
People without diploma and over 55 - 4*10 - 40
Hence probability - 40/130 - 4 out of 13
