Hey All,
I approached Olin's MBA recruiter to request a profile evaluation and to better understand my fit, GRE score, ability to pivot and if I should apply R1 or R2.
Here's my debrief with my initial as J and Olin's recruiter as O.
O: Hello J, how are you doing?
J : Very well! Thank you for having the call with me !
O: Absolutely! So we have a particular structure we go through the call. We start by getting to know you a little bit, your reason to do an MBA, and if any other questions that you would have, and then finally some application tips from our side.
J : Perfect, So I will start with my background *I told them my background, what do I do and my reason to do an MBA, my post MBA goals *
O: Very well, have you taken GRE/GMAT ?
J : Yes I have and my score is 322 , I also wanted to understand if that's competitive enough or shall I consider a retake ?
O: Well, if you could let me know the breakup of Quant and verbal ?
J : That's Q165 and V157
O: That's just all right, our average is 155 for both quant and verbal and you are definitely above average.
J : I do come from an over-represented pool of candidates :Indian/Engineer/Male so I just wanted to reiterate if I should make another attempt to increase my odds ?
O: Look it doesn't really harm to give it one more shot but that being said , what is the hindrance other than GRE score to apply in Round 1 ?
J : Nothing (*thinking in mind that I am not ready , ready is also a hindrance*)
O: You can always apply in R1 and consider updating your GRE later.
J: I see
O: The reason we are pushing you to apply in R1 because GRE forms just a portion of your candidature and then there are other things. Also the biggest reason is the Scholarships. Round 1 sees a lot of money on the table , so the earlier you apply , more are your chances to avail scholarship.
J: I see , I really don't have any hinderance. I think I can apply
O : Perfect , do stay in touch and don't hesitate shall there be any concerns and we can work together to understand what is pending from your side to make a successful submit.
J: Definitely, I will be in touch !
O : Any other questions?
J: Yes, I wanted to understand the placements in the Energy sector specially Cleantech since I do wish to stay in Cleantech but in a different function other than Engineering.
O: I am not gonna lie, I am no expert in careers but I can follow up from the recruitment team and let you know.
J: Oh that'd be great, thanks.
J: I also wanted to understand the visa issues that one might face owing to Covid
O: We don't foresee any issues. We would help you in all possible manner regarding Visa.
J: Alright, thanks. I do not have more questions as of now. Thank You for having the call, I look forward to applying in R1.
O: Great, I look forward to following up with you
