It was the most absurd interview experience I have experienced throughout my career.
There was a panel of 1) Finance Professor 2) CA & Senior Alum from South Delhi (he mentions this in particular on his LinkedIn profile) 3) Adcom member or Professor- couldn't understand what he was saying as he had poor connectivity.
It was a stress interview. They did not ask for an introduction, about what i do or about my career goals or achievements.
Background - Entrepreneurship / Consumer Products / Marketing
Questions Asked:
1) What is the best way for a Tech company to give excess cash to their shareholders and why? There was a lot of grilling around this
2) What is Advance Tax? Why is it levied? How does it help the government? Lot of grilling on this.
3) So you have done CFA L1 - which is your fav subject? i said quants/probability
4) How does the government use the probability models in advanced tax? Constant Grilling around this.
5) Where have you applied Probability Models and How?
6) Oh you should have said you applied it here. Why didn't you say that?
7) So why do you want to do an MBA? i think it doesn't make sense for an entrepreneur to do an MBA.
8) Any questions for us?
1 panelist constantly kept making faces and yawning while i was answering. 1 panelist constantly kept giving a fake wide smile. Other panelist was quiet throughout. The only time he spoke was during questions around advanced taxation. he kept on pressurising with couple of more questions.
This is the worst method of taking an interview. You don't let the interviewee speak up or talk about relevant things.
The panelists just wanted to talk about topics of their field of experience and were very narrow-minded.
Loved going through such a grill though, keeps you level headed for the future engagements.
In addition, realised that IIMs are too academic and book-oriented. Glad I didn't get through as I was looking to have a more holistic and out of class learning experience.
Got into the college of my top preference though! :)

The interview was pretty smooth and straightforward. I was interviewed by a panel of 3 members, all of whom were extremely senior alums.
Questions asked:
1) Introduction
2) What is your biggest achievement
3) Challenge you faced during that
4) Why MBA?
5) Why not FMBA? (coming from a Corporate + FMB Background)
6) If you don't get an MBA, you can still scale up your business. So why MBA?
7) What will you do if you don't get an admit?
8) Will you reapply?
9) Questions regarding Hobby 1 and Hobby 2
10) Discussion around leadership quality mentioned in the essay and how i have showcased it.
11) QnA
The interviewers listened to all the answers patiently. They had a straight face throughout. No expressions or Cross Questioning at all.
Just be confident and give complete answers. Try connecting the dots! It should work well.

The interview was taken online (via WebEx) and lasted for about 40 minutes. An AdCom member took the interview. He was very accommodating and made it feel like a conversation throughout.
The questions were:
- Why an MBA and why Rutgers?
- What are your short-term goals? What are some of the companies that you target?
- What is one word your peers would use to describe you?
- How would you contribute to Rutgers?
- Why do you think you'd be a good fit for Rutgers?
- How do you want to engage with the career center at Rutgers?
- What does success mean to you?
- How do you deal with conflicts?
- What is one feedback that you have received recently from your supervisor?
- What is your long-term goal?
- Who's your role model?
- You're doing so well in your current role. Why do you want to leave that for an MBA?
- What are your hobbies?
- Do you have any questions for me?
I asked four questions, and he answered all of them in detail. It was apparent that they take career placement very seriously, and they'd look for that commitment in the candidate. Later, he said he would connect me with the Office of Career Management for another interview.
The interview with Career Management took place after four days and lasted for about 30 minutes. The interviewer asked about my reason for pursuing an MBA, my career plan, and my target companies.
The takeaways from the interviews are as follows:
1. When it comes to functional areas, Rutgers is focused on marketing, corporate finance, and supply chain. If you're into consulting, investment banking, or private equity, it may not be the program for you.
2. If you're an international student, make sure you have researched beforehand whether your target companies sponsor H1B visas. Don't just throw some company names from your desired industry.
3. It's better to have a typical post-MBA goal instead of an overly ambitious one. For example, VC-PE is a lucrative but niche industry. If the school you've applied to doesn't send at least 10% of their graduates to VC-PE, then a post-MBA VC-PE goal from this school would be overly ambitious. You can personalize a typical goal (consulting, tech PM, etc.) to stand out. The employment rate is a crucial factor for b-schools. They won't bet on you if they sense that the likelihood of you landing your desired role in the US is low.

I got the admissions interview invite on 14th Jan for the Round 2 application and had it scheduled for 28th Jan 2022. My interview was conducted by Ms. Danielle Spence who at the outset made me comfortable and relaxed. She said: "The interview is expected to last 15-25 minutes and I will not be taking much of your time and would want you to enjoy your evenings and weekend. I would be asking you pretty straightforward questions, similar to what you would encounter in a typical behavioral interview. My intent is not to trick you up with tricky questions."
While the interview was pretty one-dimensional at the start where she would ask me a question and then scribble down something during my response, the interview turned conversational towards the later part and I enjoyed talking with her.
Walk me through your CV under 2 minutes and stress the highlights
Why Rotman? Why MBA?
Short-term and long-term goals?
Which other schools you are applying for?
A situation where you showed leadership skills and 3 key leadership lessons? (I think I faltered in here a little bit and could only provide if I can recall only 2 leadership lessons)
A situation where you were confident?
Professional setback and what did you learn from it? Biggest professional failure and what did you learn from it?
What 3 questions you would ask Dean of Rotman in a coffee chat?
Any Questions for me?
I would say use this question to show them that you have really researched about the university, something that convinces them that Rotman is your dream B-school.
Overall, the interview lasted 45mins.

Interviewer: 2nd year student (Daytime MBA)
Duration: roughly 40 minutes
Summary:
In my view, the interview was conversational. The interviewer was friendly, she took some notes while I was talking.
Questions:
1) Tell me about yourself
2) Why MBA
3) Why Fuqua
4) Leadership style
5) Leadership experiences - she asked the specific example and how I encountered some challenges
6) Anything you want to share to the interviewer
For question 6) -> If I may share some advice, it would be better for the interviewee to prepare all the important and relevant points that he/she wants to share although no questions triggered (I am sure you already made the script).
Question 6) is the opportunity for interviewee to share those important points if you haven't shared in the previous questions.
Just my two cents and hope for the best for everyone.
