Given your interest in transitioning from a non-traditional industry into consulting, it’s crucial to articulate your motivation clearly. Why consulting? What transferable skills from your current industry will help you succeed in strategy roles? How do you envision building a bridge between your past experience and future aspirations? These are questions that, when answered thoughtfully, will help differentiate your application.

To make your application stronger and more tailored, I’d love to understand more about your role and impact in your current industry. Have you managed projects, teams, or budgets? Priyanka here from ARINGO. With 5 years of experience, you're in a strong position in terms of work tenure for HEC Paris. However, since you haven’t specified your industry or role, it's hard to assess your fit with consulting as a post-MBA goal. Adcoms will want to see clear alignment between your past experiences, your motivation for an MBA, and how you plan to transition into consulting afterward.

Not planning to take a test makes the application more challenging, as HEC generally recommends the GMAT/GRE unless you qualify for a waiver and have strong academics and professional credentials. If your undergrad academics were average or if your work isn't strongly analytical/quantitative in nature, the absence of a test score could hurt your chances.

Thank you for sharing your profile @MegaCoconut ! 6 years in tech is the sweet spot for both IE and IESE (they like candidates with professional depth who can contribute immediately). A GRE score of 329 is a good quantitative/verbal signal. If you can show measurable impact (product metrics, revenue, cost, or efficiency improvements, team leadership), you’ll match what these programs look for in mid-career tech applicants.

You’ll need to answer (clearly): Why MBA now? (with 6 years, explain why a full-time MBA is required for the next step). Why IE / IESE specifically? (name concrete resources, clubs, courses, and company access you’ll use). How will you convert the MBA into your target tech outcome? (internship, employers you’ll approach, location preference).

All your shortlisted US schools are moonshots. You aren't hedging your risks. I would suggest you also dig into finding out if there is recruitment happening in the sustainability domain or not.

Yes! The U.S schools I am considering are definitely one of the most competitive schools in the world. But those are the places I want to go to if I am considering moving to USA. I am not hedging my risks probably because I am clear where I wanna go.

Great. Knowing priorities is a great place to be in. Since you plan to apply in R1 next year, you have a full runway to figure out the DNA of each school. For example, what MIT seeks is quite different from its Boston-brother. Then use those insights to understand where/how you need to strengthen your candidacy. Best wishes.
