Switch to consulting for 5 or 6 years, then back to my Civil Engineering Industry at an executive level, or shift into a large capital infrastructure projects.

Hey @ElliotW

10+ years crushing it in US transportation - that's amazing. With that experience aiming for an MBA in 2025 is a smart move. The 319 GRE might need a little bump for schools like INSEAD and Wharton, but there are ways to boost your score.
Love your post-MBA goals! Using the MBA to springboard into consulting for a few years before becoming a transportation exec rockstar, or diving into massive infrastructure projects, shows serious planning.

To really nail your application strategy and suggest the perfect schools (including some safeties), we'd love to hear more about your specific transportation experience and what makes INSEAD and Wharton your top picks. If you're down, send me your CV and let's connect.

Hi florenciadx! Congratulations on being called in to interview at INSEAD. How did the interview go? I am considering applying for the same program for the 2025 intake. Any tips you'd suggest I should consider during my application process? I am yet to give the GMAT - did you go for some coaching or self-study?

Fantastic GMAT. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your profile. Only 2 years of experience though? Would recommend applying a year or so later. (There are folks who do it at this point and get in also - but from a statistical point of view, I can only advise you as I have.)

Business Management Engineer specializing in Logistics with nearly 4 years of experience in the Automotive Industry. I am currently on a professional break due to a significant opportunity that arose when my husband secured a job outside Mexico, leading us to embark on an exciting adventure in Austin, Texas.

At BMW Group, I bring a proven track record in material planning and database management.
My short-term goal is to advance my career by pursuing an MBA with a specialization in Operations Management. With my current expertise in logistics and database management, coupled with practical experience at BMW Group, I aim to deepen my understanding of strategic management frameworks and gain insights into global supply chain dynamics. During my MBA program, I intend to leverage cutting-edge knowledge and industry connections to refine my leadership abilities and expand my skill set in areas such as supply chain optimization, strategic sourcing, and international logistics. Ultimately, I seek to transition into a senior management role within the automotive or manufacturing sector, where I can drive operational excellence and contribute to organizational growth.
My long-term goal is to assume a leadership position as a Vice President of Operations or Chief Operations Officer (COO) within a leading automotive company. By integrating the foundational knowledge acquired during my MBA studies with my practical experience in logistics and database management, I aspire to spearhead transformative initiatives that optimize supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall organizational performance. I envision myself shaping strategic decisions, fostering innovation in operational processes, and nurturing a collaborative work environment that promotes continuous improvement and sustainable growth. Through strategic leadership and a commitment to operational excellence, I aim to make a significant impact on the automotive industry, driving the adoption of best practices and ensuring sustained competitive advantage for the organization.

Thank you and sorry about the confusion with matriculation/intake dates. We used to have it one way and then most people kept putting intake date, so we changed it from matriculation to intake - you actually thought about it "correctly" 👍

Your background and the fact that you are staying within the same industry is great - that will make your application stronger. As a Latino background you will also get some diversity points. My recommendation would be to connect with some of the students at Ross, Fuqua, Tepper, etc before you start working on your apps so you can shape some of your stories based on your conversations with them.

So, if you can get away with a test-waiver, that's great. In my experience for international candidates it is one less data point that your application has and if there is a question about your strength as an applicant, it may come into play. 3.34 is not considered high unless it is actually high at your college/major. Anyway, I don't want to sound biased as the GMAT guy so if you can get away with not taking the GMAT, and free up time to write applications, work on networking with students/alums, and build up your profile in other ways, absolutely do that and skip the test, but only if you have certainty in other areas. Also, not having a test score will often disqualify you from scholarship considerations (not always but often).

I'll agree with BB on the GMAT test. If you are currently not employed and can focus your time on the GMAT, that would only help you. You can also look into a few other programs. McCombs- because you stay in the city and can visit very easily. USC Marshall. Emory - its on the same coast as you, if location is a consideration
Otherwise, your profile looks good

Hey,

I am impressed by your background in logistics and database management within the automotive industry. Impact in your experience at BMW Group is exactly what you need to succeed.

Your ability to handle complex material planning and databases is a huge asset, and these skills will be invaluable in Operations Management after your MBA. The schools you've chosen, Ross Michigan, Fuqua, and Tepper, are all known for their amazing programs in operations and supply chain management.

While many schools are yet to publish application requirements for 2024-2025, here is a list of schools that offered test waiver last year for your reference:

If you're interested, we at ARINGO would love to chat more about your profile and how we can help you with your applications. Sharing your CV would allow us to give you personalized advice tailored to your goals.

I have spent around 4 years working at Bain Capability Network, having graduated from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University in 2020. Post MBA, I’m looking to work at a consulting firm in the short term, and eventually would like to start my own venture in the sustainability space.

At Bain Capability Network, I have worked with international stakeholders (US, Europe, SE Asia) and currently report to a senior stakeholder based in America. Additionally, I have actively participated in extracurricular activities at work and during my undergrad years, holding multiple positions of responsibility.

INSEAD is my dream college, both for the geography as well as the mission and values of the school. I am open to applying for the Jan 2026 /Aug 2025 intake (though I would prefer January for the internships). I understand that lack of international exposure might be a hindrance. Kindly evaluate my profile and let me know where I stand!

You have a strong profile and score. These give you a good defense. Balance will entirely depend on how you package and present your achievements, motivations, etc. Make sure your school selection is aligned with your past and target goals. (Dee: admissions consultant)

Hi Tavishi , INSEAD alumna here (and former admissions interviewer). Your score is fantastic, and I can see how it might help you since you have been in a research focused role in BCN and come from an overrepresented pool (from within the consulting pool at INSEAD). I would say you should give your best at LBS and INSEAD and apply to a few of the M7s as well. For the post MBA goals, try to add more depth than just saying you want to get into a front end MBB role. There are certain nuances to how MBBs recruit. A larger vision would read better on the application.

Best wishes

Hi Tavishi,

Your profile is off to a fantastic start for your MBA applications! A 4.0 GPA from Lady Shri Ram College for Women is stellar, and a 725 on the GMAT Focus is a strong score. Having 3.5 years of experience at Bain Capability Network, especially with international exposure, gives you a solid foundation in consulting. Your interest in eventually launching a venture in the sustainability space demonstrates impressive ambition and focus.

LBS, Kellogg, INSEAD, and Wharton are all top-tier programs, so it's great that you're aiming high. Your profile is definitely competitive for these schools, particularly with your international experience and leadership at Bain. While INSEAD is known for its diverse student body, highlighting specific aspects of the program that resonate with you (like the focus on sustainability or the January intake for internships) will strengthen your application.

The key here will be crafting a compelling narrative that showcases your growth at Bain, your passion for sustainability, and your leadership potential. To really personalize your application strategy and maximize your chances at your dream schools, we'd love to see your CV and chat in more detail. We can help you refine your story and ensure your application materials shine!

Hi Tavishi, Nice to meet another ELSA (although I am much older).
You have a strong profile and I would be hopeful of your chances at all the programs you have mentioned. Over the years we have worked with many applicants from BCN - so I understand your work well. Even though you haven't travelled abroad for work, you can still highlight working with clients / stakeholders from different countries. What you must show, specifically in the INSEAD app, are qualities such as cultural sensitivity, adaptability, good communication skills and ofcourse a willingness to work with and learn from people who are different than you. These are important as INSEAD has a highly international class, and the program is short, so you should be able to hit the ground running as soon as you join. Coming to the round you wish to apply to- Jan intake is perfectly ok. Its good to have the internship even if you have to go back to consulting post MBA, esp with how the recruitment scene has been in the past two years. The challenge you may face with a March deadline though is that you will know your INSEAD result by May next year. By then your US/UK results will be out. So you may have to deposit some money to another b-school by then.

I am also happy to read that you have some recent ECAs - these can help differentiate you among a large pool of applicants applying from BCN (and most apply to all the b-schools you have mentioned, so your internal competition itself is strong enough). Both LBS and INSEAD have essays asking for your extra curricular activities and interests, and it helps to have meaningful stories here.
Reach out if you'd like to discuss your profile further or take help on your applications. We have an ex-BCN consultant on our team.

Good profile; decent scores, but may fall short of expectations from an Indian male. The IIT brand could help, but only up to a point. Lots will depend on your achievements during your career, your research to find a fit with the three schools (which are quite different from each other), your recommendation letters, and overall positioning and your packaging. Japanese language skills are helpful only if your target organization(s) deal with Japanese clients or are in Japan. Do consider improving your score to 705+, but definitely get started on your applications.

The journey of applications, just like the MBA program itself, is a test of your planning, execution, and time management. If the 685 was a recent attempt, it means you are still warmed up and can continue running. What got you here may not get you where you want to go, so hire a coach. I'm not a tutor, so I'm not selling anything. You have a 90-day runway in front of you. Here are your options, the way I see them:
1. Assuming no improvement to 685, select schools where this score is higher than the school average by 30+ points. Start working on the applications, especially those elements that do not depend on your scores. There's plenty to cover in these 90 days. You could always use this opportunity to apply to a few schools as a pilot.
2. You lose nothing by deferring to next year, R1 Sep 2025. Your work experience at the time of matriculation in 2026 will still be within the sweet spot of 4-6 years. Use this time to improve your scores to 715+ and build a strong defense. This may also give you time to strengthen your offense, i.e. your profile, achievements, etc.
Please don't see my views as discouraging you from applying this year. Just do not ignore the harsh reality that comes along with your demographic profile.

I mean if I wait it out, I may get a better score (say a 695), 1 more year of work ex maybe with promotion and more money. What I lose is 1 year with respect to other candidates but in the long term it should not matter.

Great profile, Aditya. I am going to agree with Dee that you even if you wait a year, you will only strengthen your profile, so don't worry about missing the bus. Anyhow, take the GMAt for now.
Your sustainability background can be quite a plus for you. Just wondering if your consulting gig also allows for sustainability projects?
And, any extra curricular activities post college?

Hi Namita. Yes. I had created a technology investment thesis for an F500's climate fund which ended up in a massive RE storage project in Germany. Also have on-ground work experience with another F500 firm's EV charging infra implementation in an Indian city. This year, my work is around Auto components and Driver assistance systems.

In terms of extracurriculars, I used to be part of a band during college. I partake in jams and gigs in my city these days. Nothing much here.

Hey there!

I hope you are doing well. My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

Targeting top schools like Booth, Kellogg, and Wharton, is a winning combination. Your 3.3 years of experience, including two fast-track promotions to Deputy Senior Consultant at a Japanese Management Consulting firm, is seriously impressive. The focus on Auto and Energy is hot right now, and the fact that your company has alums from LBS, ISB, Wharton, and Columbia speaks volumes about the caliber of work you're doing. Leading projects like implementing a battery swap network and crafting market entry strategies showcases your strategic thinking and ability to deliver results.

Your experience in Japan (and the top 1% score on the N3 language test!) adds a unique dimension to your profile. It demonstrates your adaptability and cultural fluency, which is a major plus for top programs. While your extracurriculars focus on music (band with competition wins – that's awesome!), your fluency in Japanese is a compelling side hustle that could be very attractive to schools looking for globally-minded candidates. And a GMAT FE score of 685, gives you an additional competitive edge.

Now, with your target schools (Booth, Kellogg, Wharton) being highly competitive, the key will be crafting a compelling application that tells your story and highlights your achievements (we can help you with that :)).

To assess your fit with these programs in detail, we'd love to see your CV and discuss your specific goals and experiences.

Choosing Between Purdue mBT and Babson MBA - Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I'm from Taiwan and have over five years of work experience in my home country. My background includes a degree in Fashion Design, roles as a Marketing Specialist at Taiwan's largest department store, and work with an Apple Premium Reseller (APR). Additionally, I've run a small business selling second-hand luxury items online on Shopee.

Despite my diverse experiences, my business knowledge is self-taught, which was a challenge when I noticed a lack of strategic direction at the APR startup where I worked. This experience inspired me to pursue formal business education so I can implement structured, strategic approaches rather than relying on intuition.

My career goal: To establish a second-hand fashion brand that combines online and physical stores. I prefer working behind the scenes, as direct customer interaction, especially with rude customers, is not my preference.

Here are my options:

Purdue University’s Master of Business and Technology (MBT):

Duration: 1 year
Scholarship: $9,000
Pros: Cost-effective, brand new program launching this year.
Cons: New program without a track record.
Babson College Full-Time MBA:

Duration: 2 years
Scholarship: $30,000
Pros: Located in Boston, which is a vibrant, entrepreneurial city with diverse course offerings.
Cons: Uncertain recognition in Asia, which is where I plan to ultimately return.
As someone who has never studied or lived abroad, I'm seeking advice on which program might better suit my goals, especially considering my eventual return to Asia.

Thank you in advance for your insights!

Hello, I hope your interview with Kellogg went smoothly. I'm unsure about the status of my application as I haven't received any updates from Kellogg regarding the interview. Should I assume that my application has been rejected by now?

Hey Prateek, considering that Kellogg invites all its candidates to interview within the first 6 weeks, I am sorry to say it is safe to assume that your application might have been looked over if you haven't received the update by now

Hey, congrats on the Booth offer! I am curious about when you interviewed with Stern, and how they informed you were waitlisted after the interview (email/portal/call) ? And the decision was made on 3/30? I am waiting for a final decision after the Stern interview too so I am super nervous. Thanks in advance!

While work ex looks pretty decent, some areas that you need to work on are:
-GMAT score (will also be a means to offset the university academics)
-School selection (the above schools specially the global ones will probably not be the best fit for your profile, ISB and IIM are fine)
-Making a solid case for the gap year
-Extra-curriculars

Hope this assessment proves useful!

Thank you,

Can't comment about Indian schools, but for US schools like Fuqua and MIT, your scores are weak. Plain fact: as an Indian male on the higher side of work experience, your scores need to be higher than the average of the schools. Plus, these two schools are poles apart and your research should have shown this to you. If O&G consulting is what you really want to do, then revisit your school's selection criteria and process.

There are no details of what exactly do you do in your roles. This could also be important for you to stress test your alignment with your consulting career.

3.99 BS/4.00 MS GPA in a five year chemical engineering program from a state flagship university of middling reputation. Currently about 36 months of work experience excluding lab work. I plan to apply next year, so about 48 months of work experience at that time and a bit over five years experience at matriculation. I lead a team of six instructors who each year collectively train over 1000 of the Navy's brightest junior sailors in the chemistry and radiological controls necessary to safely operate nuclear reactors onboard submarines and aircraft carriers. I am also responsible for the printing, storage, destruction, and revision of all said sailors' certification exams. I've been volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past year and intend to continue doing so at least until I begin an MBA program. I'd like to get a role in management consulting post MBA with an eventual focus on the clean energy or pharmaceutical industries because of their alignment with my educational background and work experience. I don't have a strong preference on where to work post MBA. Chicago is appealing due to lower housing costs than a lot of the other major post MBA destinations, and I don't think I'd mind the weather.

Wow. That’s quite a score and quite a profile!

Great choice of schools. You can also consider talk because of its special environment as well as if you’re looking for scholarship money, Darden. However, GRE candidates tend to receive less of awards…. But usually at this point in time most people would be thankful for an admit rather than admit plus scholarship, but later as you are asked to whoop out your checkbook, scholarship starts start crossing our minds.

I think you have a fantastic profile and all of these schools would love to have you. The biggest question that David would potentially be asking is your client readiness skills and your interview skills. It sounds like you’re able to stand your ground in large settings. This is important for consulting recruiting.

PS. All of the schools measure your work experience as at the time of matriculation so currently you would be counted as a candidate with four years of work experience. That’s respectable but if you can score a promotion within the next year that would be even better.

Your GPA is amazing so that is nothing you need to worry about. My only advice for you for the next 12 months would be too befriend some of the current students and network with them to understand what it takes, what the priorities are and to set your expectations. it will make your application and experience much more successful.
