Despite increasing enrollments of women in medical schools, feelings of isolation among female medical students persist. Female students still have to contend with the social stereotype of a male doctor. In addition, institutions themselves may unintentionally foster feelings of separateness. Comparatively few women are hired for faculty positions, thus offering women students few role models. The pervasive sexual humor of male doctors and students further intensifies the female students' alienation. Alienation, in turn, negatively affects individual self- perception.

"As women enter medical study in increasing numbers, they may feel less at odds with their peers and the teaching establishment.", implying that as more women enter medical study, the less they will be at odds with their peers and thus will feel less isolated.

Sure, 48% doesn't correlate with "Many", since we dont know how many women were questioned, "many" could be any number of women, but that is the only option present in the question for which author provides concrete support. It would have been more concrete if the option had a better wording.
