Can you please explain question 4? How choice E which includes part 1 can be true?

Hi prnkgambhir,

Part 1 of question 4 can be inferred from the lines:
"As women enter medical study in increasing numbers, they may feel less at odds with their peers and the teaching establishment.", implying that as more women enter medical study, the less they will be at odds with their peers and thus will feel less isolated.

Hope This Helps.
Thanks.

Can you please explain question 3 option d?
Also in question 2 I was confused between option a and b. Please explain why a is wrong?

Hi JyotiMishra567,

2.The author of the passage would most likely agree that

A. medical schools practice widespread discrimination on the basis of sex
B. feelings of isolation among female medical students are partly the result of social stereotypes
C. some medical school policies are deliberately designed to make female students feel isolated
D. social norms must change before institutional bias can decline
E. the majority of female medical students have a negative self-image

Explanation: can be directly inferred from: "Despite increasing enrollments of women in medical schools, feelings of isolation among female medical students persist. Female students still have to contend with the social stereotype of a male doctor. In addition, institutions themselves may unintentionally foster feelings of separateness. ".
Option A is incorrect, because we can't infer with certainty, if medical school intentionally practice so, or its just the social convention, B is a better choice since it portrays the discrimination from the perspective of female medical students.

3.For which of the following claims does the author provide the most concrete support?

A. Female students have more negative experiences in medical school than male students.
B. Medical schools are moving rapidly to eliminate the effects of sexual bias.
C. Many women are psychologically damaged by the medical students feel a need.
D. Many female medical students feel a need for officially sponsored support services.
E. The use of sexual stereotypes in humor expresses hostility toward women.

Explanation: Author provides direct evidence for option D, mentioned in the passage as: "In a recent study, 48 percent of the women questioned rated a student support group as the most important support service a school can provide to foster fellowship among the student body.".

Hope this Helps.
Thanks.

How 48% correlates with "Many" in Q3?

Hi deep31993,

Sure, 48% doesn't correlate with "Many", since we dont know how many women were questioned, "many" could be any number of women, but that is the only option present in the question for which author provides concrete support. It would have been more concrete if the option had a better wording.

Hope This Helps.
Thanks.

An impassioned polemic tone would be written with more emotions than this passage was written in. It would be written as though there was dire emergency taken place.
