Hi woohoo921,

No, there's no such rule. It really can't be anything more than an observed pattern.

A lot of ands in the same sentence may not be very common, but if the sentence is long enough and all the ands justified, why not?

1. This is the use of "about" as an adverb, meaning: a little before or after. For example: We met about ten. This is a shortened version of "We met (at) about ten.".

2. No, there's no limit on the number of ANDs you can use in a sentence. As long as you don't break any rules, it's fine. But, I will say this, the longer the sentence, the more awkward it gets. But there's no specified limit. Trust your instincts.

In the original sentence they had a floor curved upward on either end so as to prevent cargo from shifting on steep grades.

Here usage of SO AS is correct ?

According to me , so as is used for negative comparisons. Hence ,here usage is wrong.

Nothing wrong with the usage of 'so as to' here. It gives the intention behind something. The floors were curved to prevent shifting of cargo (intention was 'to prevent...'). 'so as to' is not used for comparisons.

'so .. as' is used for comparisons (often negative).
Her singing is not so bad as Walter's.
