I have aplied to several schools and I posted it in the 2009 profiles. Today I thought that maybe the admission office can read the forum, and having my data they could match my nickname with my application and then know where I have applied. Do you think this is possible?

I think you're being over-cautious here. The risk obviously exists (some of the forumers work in the admissions offices as students), but the chance that:

1. adcom actually reads this forum;
2. they manage to figure out who you are through your profile

is very small indeed IMO. Adcom have other priorities and have a lot of files to read.

I hope you are right. My profile is quite different from the people in this forum (Spanish with 2 master degrees), and with the 2009 profile thread, the admissions office just have to read some posts to gather data and match it with their's.

Even if they do identify you by your profile here... does that matter? They know most applicants apply to multiple schools, and as long as your essays describe specifically why you want to go to their school, I don't see it as an issue.

I don't think adcoms come here and read threads, although Booth adcom has his/her own thread at BW where people can ask questions directly.

There was this one incident where people were in the chat room in December and we traced few IP addresses to admin.nyu IP address. I am sure they were NYU students....not adcoms....

I was thinking about this too, but I would say its a good thing if they do. They can see our keen interest in the program and other stuff. I guess there are many students who r not really motivated with the whole thing at all but they still somehow get in and leave others at the door

However, I was also thinking... do they really read our essays? I mean they prolly do, but do they just kinda briefly glaze throughout it to make sure its related to the topic or they really really read?

With same topics repeating a year after year and round after round reading this stuff makes one bored to death...

Just imagine how many essays they receive (3 papers per student times several thousand apps per round) and students generally receive same advices about what to put inside

must be very tedious to read all this same stuff over and over

I don't think adcoms read the forums. But even if they do, all they're gonna find out is how nice, helpful, and generally awesome I am :-D

LOL!

no, adcoms generally won't read these forums since they barely have time to read the application essays.

Thanks traffix for acting as my un-appointed and un-licensed spokesperson. I can't pay you though...I am still paying off my graduate degree related debt.... :oops:

I think it's a terrible idea to post your GMAT score breakdowns (Q/V). This makes you that much more easy to identify, if you are worried about it.
