Hi all,
Got admitted to these two programs:
1) Duke Fuqua Master in Quantitative Management: Business Analytics ($7k merit scholarship)
2) UChicago Graham School MSc in Analytics
I'm an international student (both are STEM OPT programs) recently graduated from a top 10 US school. I'm hoping to enter the marketing/tech space, but open to other industries and consulting if the right opportunity presents itself. I'm not necessarily aiming to work as a data scientist, but would like to work with data and use data science/research approaches in my work. Don't have the most technical skillset right now, but hoping to acquire some of those through the program.
Pretty split between the two. Some things I'm weighing up right now:
- Duke is only 10 months along vs. UChicago is 18 months (with an internship). Wary I won't be able to get deep enough into course material at Duke.
- UChicago Graham is a professional/continuing studies school vs. Duke's Fuqua, which is a business school. Have been told by current Graham students that it's not considered as separate from UChicago system, but I wonder if Fuqua's reputation is enough to outweigh UChicago brand.
- UChicago program is evenly split between part-time and full-time students. I would be part of a small number of recent grads. Sizable number of people already with MBA or MS in the program. Duke is for people with less than 3 years work experience.
- Duke better social atmosphere in terms of getting to know classmates and living close to everyone, but I reason that UChicago has better location and networking opportunities in downtown Chicago (program is not in Hyde Park, but downtown next to Booth).
- Similar curriculum, but UChicago is more rigorous and digs deeper into theory (naturally because it's a longer program).
Would love some input on what you guys would consider when picking between the schools.
I suggest you go with Duke, Ranking wise Duke is far ahead of UChicago.
