Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to decide between Duke without a scholarship or UW Foster with basically full tuition. I'm torn, as my background is in marketing for a non-profit museum and I am interested in continuing in marketing and, ideally, in non-profit. Duke hands down has the better name, but do you think it would be worth the \$100k? I'd ideally like to work my way back towards the west coast as well. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

If your dream/goal is non-profit then you take the money

Edit: the considerations would be taking the Seattle weather and staying on west coast potentially vs. east coast.
Foster has weaknesses but if you want to stay in Pacific North West it is one of the best options... and also graduating without a large loan would give you more freedom/flexibility. Duke, of course has a sexier name.

I completely agree here. Plus, your goal is to work on the West Coast, so Foster is would be a great choice. I believe the Gates Foundation is located in Seattle, too, so I'd inquire about potentially ending up there if that's a path of interest.

Hi,

If you wan to work with Health NGO ; go with Fuqua . But again again lots of NGO has the agenda towards humanitarian rights and international affairs - for which foster will suit to your needs. I guess you need to refigure out by visiting the school and have a talk with one of the professors , for your options and your goals.

Also try to figure out which job title you wants to serve in future . The following are the current JOB profile of a manager ; i named the school after each post which you would like to apply in future

1. Regulatory affairs manager- Foster

2. Program Manager - Fuqua

3. HRM Manager- fuqua / foster

4. Public relations Manager - foster

etc.

Best of Luck

If you have any chance of changing your objectives during the MBA, I would definetely pick Fuqua.

Don't a lot of schools offer loan forgiveness if you enter in the non-profit sector and stay? I'd verify whether Duke does / doesn't..

Thank you all so much for the input. Unfortunately I'm out of the country with a lack of internet and phone and I'm not able to visit either school before having to decide. It's a really tough decision that I've been going back and forth with daily, if not hourly. There are definite pros and cons to each. I really appreciate all your help and input and I luckily have a few more days till I need to make a final decision. Today I've been leaning Fuqua, but yesterday it was Foster.... I guess I need to make my mind up here soon. Thanks so much again!

This. Non-profit is a great goal, but it isn't always feasible to do right after B-school. Sometimes it's good to pick up some corporate experience that you can apply to the non-profit role. In this case, Duke wins despite the debt burden.
