During the last two minutes before a lecture began, the number of occupied seats in an auditorium increased from 112 to 135. If the number of occupied seats at the beginning of the lecture was 75 percent of total capacity, how many seats in the auditorium were empty two minutes prior to the lecture?

The number if occupied seats at the beginning of the lecture is 135 which is 75% of total seats in the auditorium
Total number of seats in the auditorium, x, can be gotten from the following equation:
75/100 * x = 135
This implies x = 135*100/75=180
Number of seats occupied 2 minutes before the start of the lecture is 112.
Hence number of empty seats 2 minutes before the lecture = 180-112 = 68.
The answer is therefore E.
