IMO:- 6 (D)

5263187 > replacing as required (odd by higher(even), even by lower (odd))

the replacement will give 6154278
ascending order will give 1245678

Fifth letter from left is 6

Solution


    • Given number: 5263187
    • Now, Each odd digit is substituted by the next higher digit and each even digit is substituted by the previous lower digit,
      o So new number = (5+1)(2-1)(6-1)(3+1)(1+1)(8-1)(7+1) =6154278
      o Digits of the number arranged in ascending order = 1245678
         Fifth digit from left = 6
Thus, the correct answer is Option D.

The odd digit substitution will result in: 6,xx4,2x8, and the even digit substitution will result in x,15x,x7x. Combining the substitutions, we have 6,154,278. Now, arranging the digits of this new number in ascending order, we have 1,245,678. The fifth digit from the left is 6.
