Each of the 4 students in a certain class read several books during the past month. What was the standard deviation of the numbers of books read by the 4 students during the past month?
So we are looking for the spread of the numbers

Let's see the statements..

1) The range of the number of books read by the 4 students during the past month was 0.
If range is 0, all the numbers will be SAME. So spread is 0..
Sufficient

2) One of the 4 students read 5 books during the past month.
Nothing about others
Insufficient

whenever the range of a set is 0 the standard deviation is always 0
