Hi, for option 5, I thought that the info given said that the supervisor would evaluate the employee but did not state when the supervisor would evaluate the employee by, so it might have been possible ...

Could you explain why this reasoning is wrong?
chetan2u
The para speaks about evaluation in two parts.
A) Self evaluation: Each member evaluates himself in September of each year. If one has joined after September of a particular year, he/she would evaluate self in September of next year.
B) Each member even if he/she has left the organization would be evaluated by supervisor .

Evaluation is under three heads.

Results: 70% evaluated their job performance to be satisfactory or above while 40% supervisors differed with self evaluations.

We are looking for Must be true and must be false. Let us look at the options.

1. All employees working at the company in March have completed at least one self-evaluation.
Not necessarily. Someone who has joined in February of the same year would do the first self evaluation in September of that year. Also, there would be few for whom it would be TRUE.

2. Fewer than half of all employees had a job performance rating of satisfactory or better from their supervisor.
We know 40% differed. If these 40% differed with the 70% who evaluated job performance satisfactory, then yes. But it may be possible that 30 % of this 40% differed with 100-70 or 30% who reported unsatisfactory job performance. So, there could be (70+30-(40-30)) or 90% getting a satisfactory rating.

3. No employee who completed a self-evaluation in a given calendar year was hired by the company for the first time in December of that calendar year.
If a person has completed a self evaluation in a year then he must have been hired before September that year. No one hired in October or November or December could have self evaluated in that calendar year. MUST BE TRUE

4. More than half of all employees had an unsatisfactory job performance.
Again need not be TRUE or false.
Is it self evaluation or evaluation by supervisors.

5. At least one employee who rated his or her performance as satisfactory in a given year did not receive an evaluation by his or her supervisor that year.
We are told everyone, even if he has left the job, is evaluated. So, this has to be FALSE.

Im going with B (Fewer than half of all employees had a job performance rating of satisfactory or better from their supervisor.) for must be true.

From passage:
- Approximately 70% rated job performance as being satisfactory or better.
- Approximately 40% of the self-evaluation ratings differed from the ratings given by the employee's supervisor.

--> The maximum percentage of those who rated job perf as satisfactory or better is 70%*(% of self evaluation which did NOT differ) = 70%*(1-40%) = 42%.

Experts Bunuel KarishmaB how would this be disputed?

Each year, all employees for a particular company complete an annual self-evaluation during the month of September, and all employees, including those who left the company after completing their annual self-evaluation, are subsequently evaluated by their supervisors. An employee hired after the month of September completes his or her first self-evaluation the following September. Each self-evaluation includes information about career goals, job responsibilities, and an overall rating of job performance, and approximately 70% rated job performance as being satisfactory or better. Approximately 40% of the self-evaluation ratings differed from the ratings given by the employee's supervisor.

Select for Must be true the statement that must be true given the information provided and select for Must be false the statement that must be false given the information provided. Make only two selections, one in each column.

All employees working at the company in March have completed at least one self-evaluation.

Not necessary. It is possible that someone was hired in Feb and left in April. No self evaluation.

Fewer than half of all employees had a job performance rating of satisfactory or better from their supervisor.

Not necessary.
Given: Approximately 70% rated job performance as being satisfactory or better. Approximately 40% of the self-evaluation ratings differed from the ratings given by the employee's supervisor.

Say of 100 people, 70 rate themselves satisfactory and 30 unsatisfactory. 40 of the ratings were different when given by supervisor. It is possible that:
- 60 satisfactory ratings were maintained while 10 satisfactory and 30 unsatisfactory were flipped. So 90 were satisfactory as per supervisors and 10 not satisfactory.
- 30 satisfactory ratings were maintained while 40 satisfactory were flipped. So overall 30 satisfactory and 70 not satisfactory.

No employee who completed a self-evaluation in a given calendar year was hired by the company for the first time in December of that calendar year.

Correct. If an employee completed his self eval in 2024, it means he was working in the company in Sept 20204. He could not have joined the company for the first time in December.

Select for "Must be True"

More than half of all employees had an unsatisfactory job performance.

No indication of "as per whom?" What is the parameter to decide overall "unsatisfactory job performance"? Own rating/supervisor rating/combination thereof - no idea

At least one employee who rated his or her performance as satisfactory in a given year did not receive an evaluation by his or her supervisor that year.

False.
Given: all employees, including those who left the company after completing their annual self-evaluation, are subsequently evaluated by their supervisors.

Select for "Must be False"
