Thx! No info yet. I applied through the Consortium, and I gathered from my discussion with the adcom that they'll be wrapping up their process around end of next week.

Do you think that the school can allow to pursue a policy in which it will ding all extra strong applicants based on the assumption that they are backing up their chances by applying to Emory?

This closing sentence is particularly striking: "If in the next year you have additional information which you feel would strengthen your application, we welcome you to re-apply to Goizueta."

The decision emails they send out are generic. They send the same thing to everybody. Schools are always trying to reduce their acceptance rates by accepting people who will choose to attend. BTW, how were your extracurriculars? Did you have leadership experience outside of work or while you were in school? That may be the only thing that may have hurt you.

This is commonly referred to as the "Tufts Effect". The theory is that a lower-ranked school can increase its yield by denying admission to overqualified applicants that will likely matriculate to a higher-ranked school.

Yield is a big deal to a school like HBS. 85% of students admitted to HBS eventually matriculate. That's pretty impressive, especially if you consider that a lot of those kids got into Wharton, Stanford, etc. They had their pick of top schools, and 85% of them chose HBS.

Among Goizueta's peer schools, yield is not a very important metric. So, I would be surprised if they systematically denied admission to overqualified applicants in an effort to increase their yield.

I got an email from the Adcomm informing me of a $15k/semester scholarship. :)

Not sure if that scholarship offer can be matched even if I get admitted by the other programs that I applied to...I sense a potential dilemma! A happy one tho! :)

Gmat 750, gpa 4.0, winner of the nation wide olympiad on economics, distinction by the highest state officials, international work experience with stress on business development and non-profit, recommendation letter provided by the former minister of the environmental protection - not even invited for an interview. Amazing, what could have been wrong with my profile?

Sorry to hear that you were denied admission :( You do have a profile that most people would love to have! However, having a strong profile doesn't necessary mean that you can get into any schools of your choice - there are many other factors that the adcom takes into consideration when making the decision to admit/reject an applicant. Emory is a very gd b-school that is climbing steadily up the rankings chart and this could have helped the school attract a pool of very strong applicants who would otherwise have applied to a top-10 program. Given that you applied in R3, they could already have accepted applicants with a profile similar to yours? I was told by the admissions director that R3 is a lot more competitive than the previous 2 rounds, and that the adcom is much more selective in who they pick to form the next class. If you had applied in the earlier rounds, you could have gotten yourself an admit? It is unfortunate Emory - like most b-schools - does not provide applicants with an opportunity to find out what went wrong in their apps. You can only make that evaluation yourself. Could it have been your essays? Or the recommendation letters from your referees? I don't know. Anyway, given your past achievements, I am sure you will go on to do just as well, if not better, in other schools. Remember that b-schools do not define who you are as a person. The fact that you have decided to go thru the grueling process of applying to b-school already shows that you are a highly motivated, ambitious person who has great plans for the future! I hope you have been admitted to other programs. Do well in another b-school, make a billion bucks, donate a tenth of your wealth as an alum to your alma mater and make Emory regret their decision to turn you away!

"Living a life better than your enemy is the best revenge"

If it's of any comfort to you, I got a ding too. I don't have a profile as awesome as yours, but I am equally confident that I will do better in a school that appreciates me for who I am.

Congrats to all admitted applicants ! Enjoy Atlanta :-D

I'm in too. I was waitlisted in R1 and got a confirmed admit on the 7th of March via email, and a followup email a half hour later informing me that I was awarded a scholarship. The next morning, Amy Stalzer (Director of MBA Operations) - the person who interviewed me many months ago - called and gave me $ details about the scholarship. Very excited!

That's awesome, congrats! Do you have any advice for me? I got wait listed in Round 3. Did you send them any additional information. Did you keep in constant contact? Any advice or tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Also did they mention how many people they have wait listed?

Thanks! Yes, I did send them additional info. I enrolled in a couple of online courses. I spoke to a few current students and alumni (some of my friends). I was in constant touch with them (make sure it doesn't get annoyingly frequent though). I guess these things helped.

If you don't mind me asking, but online courses did your enroll in? Also was this something they told you specifically to do, or did you do this on your own. Last question... I promise! Did you get a call that you were put on the waiting list or did you just get a letter. Thank you for your feedback!

Hi all,

Just wanted to share that I got accepted and am probably taking the offer. So I hope to meet some of you in a couple of month's time. Just wondering, any one from Singapore or around the region heading to Emory? Thinking of doing a link up.

All the best to those who are waiting...

Congrats! I'm from Singapore too! :)

Let's hope we get to meet at Emory together. I'm still waiting on the result of a couple of interviews...nervous times!

Got an offer from Emory too with some $$--I am not from Singapore :(
But I am an Indian guy working in Shanghai for the past two years --close enough :)

Guys- Any idea if there is any presence of Emory in this region? I mean in Singapore, HK etc.
I would ideally like to settle in Asia but I am open to working in the US for a few years immediately after my MBA.

Also, with this American economy--what are the chances of getting an H1b through an I-bank post an Emory MBA? I heard the banks just don't want to hire the international stufents post MBA because of the extensive paper work involved.
Any insights please?
