Undergrad Major: Chemical Eingineering
Undergrad institution : Public Ivy (Think UCLA but in the south)- 8% of class at HBS was from my school
GPA: 3.51/Major GPA:3.75
GMAT:730
WE: 4 Years of engineering experience in oil and gas (Exxon/Chevron/ConnoccoPhillips/BP)- hands on.
Post MBA Goal: Short Term- operations management/global strategy within the o&g industry, Long Term-using strategy/operations experience in consulting
Target Schools: HBS, Duke, Sloan, Booth
Extracurricular: Active recruiting, as an alumni, for company; young professionals network; literacy/education of local schools on engineering
Extracurriculars during undergrad; research assistant, teaching assistant.
Do I have a shot at these schools? What other schools should I include on my list?

Hi there,
Thanks for your post. Overall you have a solid profile, with a strong GMAT (above the average at all top programs); solid engineering work experience; acceptable academics; thought-out goals. I would say you wouldn't be ruled OUT from consideration at the schools you mentioned, but so far it's tough to discern much that helps you stand out and be remembered either, especially in a growing pool of engineering applicants applying to b-school. So don't underestimate the importance of those essays to help show who you are as a person and what you'll bring to the class. HBS will always be a challenge; followed by Booth & Sloan; and your odds may be greater at Duke. Not sure if you've looked into Haas; and then of course Rice, McCombs and other Texas schools are well known in the energy sector.
