I addressed the entrepreneurial path in my essays. Think of it in terms of both function and industry, do you know what you want? Ultimately you want to dig deeper, probably state at least what type of industry you hope to start something in.

Just stating you want to start x and make $y isn't helpful. Note most people want to do something, or have a great idea, but don't execute. Show the adcoms that you are not one of these people, that you've thought this thru and that B-SCHOOL is the logical next step (I think this is one part where you have to sorta write to them or else they start assuming).

You should use the words "do" more than "want" in your essays. e.g. "I plan to start x after graduating from Wharton" vs "I want to start x after graduating from Wharton.

Do they really want to hear "um..I work extremely hard and for myself but I just haven't found what I want to do. Yes yes -- I have 2 or 3 different companies I COULD start right now, but they all kind of -- bore me (i.e. staffing firm, sales of item X, etc..)! I'm really hoping an MBA will give me exposure to different fields and bright minds and hopefully I can form a strong team and start a company fresh out of school."

Write that and I have a feeling you'll get butchered! I second the notions that you need to have a clearer picture for admissions. If you could start a dream company today, what would it be? What are you passionate about? Questions like these will help you narrow it in.

Longer term, great companies typically have a leader who is completely devoted to the cause. How do you expect to recruit a number of your brilliant classmates without a driving force in your life? They won't pass on the established routes to suffer the risks of entrepreneurship on a half-hearted mission, which people can sense pretty quickly. Something to think about beyond the admissions cycle! I would encourage you to really reflect on what you stand for beyond self-employment and dollars.
