Experts' Global - Free Access - Course Review  [#permalink]

I received 1 month free access for Experts Global GMAT platform through GMAT Club. First of all thanks to @Experts' Global for the generous offer.

I mainly used the course for verbal and part of the quant course. This is my attempt to share my feedback of the course.

1.Organization:
The course is neatly organized in 3 phases's starting with concept files and progressing to practice tests. This organization will be of real help to someone who is starting their preparation.

2.Study Plan:
The platform has 2 study plan's - 15 week which would suit for someone who in initial stages and next one is 6 weeks more like a crash course.

3.GMAT like design - All the practice tests have the GMAT like user interface, probably to mimic the real time environment. Its good to see that.

4.GMAT Shots - These are 1 minute video's more like a flash card of important concepts. For me this was the best section. there are around 150 of these file
and i used it mainly to refer back to the sections that i have completed already. Kudos to those who have designed this.

5.Verbal - I followed RC section diligently uing experts global. I liked the strategy recommended by RC and also they have good number of
passages for practice. RC was my weak area and the questions i saw in Experts global was difficult, probably its just me.

SC and CR were equally good.

6.Full length Tests: 15 full length mock tests provided with the course and on top of that every tests comes up with amazing diagnostics. I really like the
diagnostics provided with result. Updated to shorter format as on April,17

7.Extras:
There is a section names 'Extras' in which there were videos for short cuts for calculations, how to use answer choices for geometry questions. This will help in honing the skills.

8.App Help & Interview Prep:
There are bunch of videos to help prepare for application and interview preparation , these are welcome addition. I did not had a chance to look into these videos since my focus was on GMAT as of now.

Con's:

1.RC Exercises:
Each RC exercise consists of 2 passages and each passage comes up with 8 to 10 questions and entire exercise will have 17 to 20 questions. I am not so good in RC and i was not able to concentrate on 2 long RC's back to back in a single exercise. This reduced my accuracy level in RC exercise.

Timer issue:
In RC passages , the timer turns red as soon as we hit 2 minute mark into the question. This is distracting, since for RC's we take around 3 to 4 minutes to analyze and prepare our notes before going into questions.

2.Phase 3 practice exercises - Some of the questions in phase 3 exercises are borrowed from previous phases, this reduces the importance of phase 3 a little
bit, since we have already seen some of those questions in phase 1 and phase 2.

Apart from those listed above, i did not came across any issues.

Edit: Formating

Are the mocks in newer format with reduced qs? Can you elaborate on timing and verbal strategy benefited specifically from course?

The mocks are not updated yet. Though i got an email that updated version will be released soon.

I have not followed any timing strategies yet. But important strategy i benefited from is for RC. The RC strategy helped me improve my accuracy.

The experts global teaches a strategy called Mind mapping. On a high level, the mind mapping is

1.Skim through the first paragraph
2.Understand what is the purpose of the paragraph.
3.Skim through the next paragraph
4.Understand the purpose and tone of the second paragraph.
5.Link the purpose of paragraph 2 with paragraph 1.

Continue this step for subsequent paragraph.

Thanks for your sincere efforts is writing this review. It is nice to see the software helping the students in an approach that we foresaw while developing it. Thank you for the special mention for 'GMAT Shots', we thought the students will totally love it. We are developing a mobile application that would have these videos free for all students (giving-back-of-sorts )

Number of Questions in RC Exercises
In Stage-1, we have deliberately kept the number of questions per RC high so that a student gets to analyze different possible question on any RC; the stamina and patience one developes is a bonus. In Stage 2, when a student is closer to GMAT, the exercises give 3-4 questions per RC. For students who really struggle on solving two RCs x ~7 questions each per RC in Stage 1, it is recommended that you solve one RC at a time, pause it there, and return. However, gradually, do build the stamina to solve 12+ RC questions in one go as that would be the case on GMAT.

Repeat RC Questions in Stage 3
As explained on the relevant section in the software, we also have a "700+ only course" and hence, for each question type, we have 700+ level questions from Stages 1 and 2 repeating in Stage 3. Such repeat exercises have been neatly demarcated and can be ignored by students who have full access. Stages 1 and 2 include 2500+ verbal questions (150+ RCs) and 1000+ quant questions (apart from the 15 full length tests) so at no point, you will be at dearth of questions.

Timer Turning Red
We have received excellent reviews for this feature; while it may be a bit distracting to begin with in some cases (such as the first question for RC; but there too you at least get a sense of how long you are taking to read), you will gradually get used to it and eventually, you will reap the broader benefit- of knowing how long do 110 seconds feel on the test . In case we get multiple feedbacks, we will make the feature optional. I will like to know your feedback after 2-3 weeks of regular practice.

For any readers using the software, it is strongly recommended that you watch the following video carefully (it is anyway sent to everybody on registration):

Once again, thank you for the efforts. We hope that more and more students in the community benefit from this software.

All the very best!

Cordially,
Experts' Global

Wonderful summary!

We'll just add that in point '2', the 'purpose' needs to be really brief. A common mistake students commit is that they end up paraphrasing everything, that's not the correct approach.

Examples of 'purpose' of a paragraph: "to introduce a biological process", "give examples of X" etc. (See, how brief every time!)

All the best!

The experts global teaches a strategy called Mind mapping. On a high level, the mind mapping is

Thanks for the information provided. I agree with the 700+ only questions in the platform. After i started using Mind map strategy and practicing with the exercises i would say my confidence level in RC has certainly increased. The RC passages were really tough and after few days of practice in the platform , i returned to solve RC questions in GMAT Club forum and i felt some of the passages i saw as easy one's.I agree there is no dearth of questions in the forum.

Giving GMAT Shot's as free is a very good gesture. Those who have done with concepts and currently in practice tests mode would benefit from these videos.

Regards
Raghu
