The sentence opens up with a modifier, followed by "Ravi". We know that Ravi himself doesn't extend more than forty years -- that's nonsensical. For this reason, we can eliminate answers A and D.
Answer E probably doesn't need an explanation but I'll give one anyway. "Ravi the career of Shankar" is nonsensical as well.
Now we are down to B and C. The opening modifier in both of these answer choices correctly refer to Ravi's CAREER instead of Ravi himself. Answer choice C uses the phrase "group of being" which is incorrect -- Preposition + NOUN + VERB(ing) is wrong 99% of the time. The only time when Preposition + NOUN + VERB(ing) is correct is when the preposition refers directly to the noun. To any native speakers here, this entire sentence just doesn't sound right to the ear either
Now that we've eliminated A, C, D, and E, we have our answer: B
though my take is B for the obvious reasons
