I did not understand the Fact 2 :

Fact 2: Employers are more likely to invite individuals who are first or last in a group of consecutive interviews for a second interview than those whose interviews are somewhere in the middle.

Can someone explain please ?

Answer is E...

The Fact 2 states that when there are consecutive interview lined up for a candidates.. the candidates who finish their first (initail) interview either first or at the last are more likely to get the call for the second round of interview. The candidates in between first and last are more likely to miss out on the second interview call..
Hope this explains Fact 2... :)

Hello mate!
Just as in a row of advertisements you remember frequently the first ad and the last. Here the arg is employers are more likely to call the first or last candidate for second interview

Fact 1: The percentage of Farouk's initial job interviews that result in his being invited for a subsequent interview is decreasing.

Fact 2: Employers are more likely to invite individuals who are first or last in a group of consecutive interviews for a second interview than those whose interviews are somewhere in the middle.

Fact 2 would be most likely to contribute to an explanation of fact 1 if which of the following were also true?

-The average firm or organization invites less than ten percent of individuals with whom it has conducted initial interviews for a subsequent interview.
-The average number of individuals granted initial interviews by employers is decreasing.
-The total number of individuals seeking jobs is decreasing.
-The number of employers who grant initial interviews is increasing.
-The average number of individuals granted initial interviews by employers is increasing.

Don't forget KUDOS if you like the question. This is from KAPLAN CAT.

The argument asks us to assume that Fact 2 is accurate and accordingly check if Fact 2 could lead to Fact 1.

Fact 2 states that if you are first or last to be interviewed, you have a higher chance of being called for a subsequent interview.

Probability of being first or last = [2][/total number of people who interview]

If the total number of people interviewing increases, then your probability of being first or last decreases. That means, your probability of being called for a subsequent interview decreases too. This is exactly the case with Mr. Farouk in Case 1.

Option E is the only one that satisfies this condition. Hence E.

Fact 2: Employers are more likely to invite individuals who are first or last in a group of consecutive interviews for a second interview than those whose interviews are somewhere in the middle.

Fact 2 would be most likely to contribute to an explanation of fact 1 if which of the following were also true?

We have to link how fact 2 helps in explaining fact 1 i.e. farouk's getting lesser no of calls for a second inteview, given that employers tend to call first or last candidates among the group of people that they interview.

-The average firm or organization invites less than ten percent of individuals with whom it has conducted initial interviews for a subsequent interview. this option fails to explain how or why this can lead to decrease in farouk subsequent call.. this option does not bear any relation whether those 10% comprises people primarily from the first and last or from the middle of the group.
-The average number of individuals granted initial interviews by employers is decreasing. OOS> this option fails to talk about subsequent interview. even if the no of individuals granted initial interview is decreasing, how does it affect farouk's chances or further his position in the group of people being interviewed is still not clear.
-The total number of individuals seeking jobs is decreasing.OOS. farouks not getting subsequent call is independent whether there is a large pool of people applying for a job or small. If at all, there is any relation then this would certainly increase his chances rather decrease since lesser people are giving interviews. However this option fails to take into account people who come first or last in the group
-The number of employers who grant initial interviews is increasing.if the no of employers granting initial interview is increasing, then he or anyone will get more calls. however this option does not show any relation why there can be decrease in the subsequent interview calls based on fact 2. It just illustrates that farouks might be getting a lot of initial interview calls than previous. In one way this might mean more calls, so even if rejection rate remains same, the percentage for subsequqnet call will decrease. However, this statement does relate the first and last scenario that is stated in Fact2. This is why I rejected this answer choice though tempting. this option might independently helps explain the decrease but does not account fact 2 as a reason for fact 1. (this is something we are asked to prove in the question)
-The average number of individuals granted initial interviews by employers is increasing. If more people are getting calls for initial interviews, then the probability of farouk to lie in the first or last in the group decreases. And as per stmt 2, people in the first or last are more likely to be selected. Hence this option shows some bearing of fact 2 on fact 1 and decrease in the no of calls for farouk for subsequqnt interviews. Hence CORRECT

I have a question concerning the grammar in the question stem:

Should it not say
Quote:
... job interviews that result in HIM being invited...
instead of HIS?

I chose E anyway, just curious.

A very logical question, If no of individual increases for the interview their would be less chances that one would be in first and last.

Pls give Kudoes!!!
