Hi Harsha Sir,
For the second solution where you have taken 5+x+8 - 5 => 40 -5 = 35 < 53... Shouldn't it be <58? Because 53 already considers the -5, and we're considering it again in the 5+x+8-5 calculation. Please do let me know if I have made a mistake in my understanding. Thanks!

Thanks for bringing this up -- I think I miswrote. Let me help build clarity here!
Bottom line:
To effectively pump to a height of 40 (5+8+x, in our chart), given the resistance of 5, we would need a pump with a rating of at least 45.
i.e., the pump would need to have a rating of at least (5+8+x"+5") = 45. Our pump is rated at 58 feet, so this should not be a problem.

Assume that with the farmer’s plan the resistance from friction in the system will contribute exactly 5 vertical feet to the system’s total. For each of the following possible heights from the surface of the water source to the top of the tank, select Yes if it meets the constraints of the plan as specified. Otherwise, select No.
1. Pump can pump upto 58 vertical feet. with 5 vertical feet resistance it becomes 53 vertical feet
and also at the inlet of irrigation system we need 10 psi pressure
We know that one vertical feet gives us psi of 0.43.
So 10 psi = 10/0.43 = 23.26
2. That means the distance from irrigation system inlet to the bottom of tank needs to be >= 23.26
20 feet, 2nd condition will fail, so NO
40 feet both conditions pass, so YES
60 feet 1st condition will fail. so NO
