Would like to get advice from the experts here

1) I went through the OG review 2016 version about 50%.. Should I buy another book or continue with this? It is interesting that I felt that the format and type of questions on the real test today was quite similar to the OG review book (guess it is a good thing, yet I must have gotten a lot of questions wrong based on my scores).. I know for sure that I need to improve my verbal score significantly.... (non-native English speaker here)
2) Is it worth buying OG review verbal and quantitative supplemental guides? Between OG review (comprehensive one) and these supplemental guides, do questions overlap a lot?
3) What other guides/books do you recommend?
4) Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

1-The OG review is good. I would suggest you go for the Manhattan books for the verbal.
2-No not really. Your Q skills seem ok maybe you need to revise a few concepts.
3-Manhattan. You could also attempt the CATs there. I strongly suggest you try the 2 free GMAT prep CATs.
4- Look at egmat if you are not a native English speaker. You could raise your V score by some considerable level.

Hi cgkoffg,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so the fact that you scored above average (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around a 540-550 most years) after just 6 days of study means that you're a reasonably strong critical thinker. That having been said, you simply haven't done enough work to learn the intricacies of the Exam, the content tested, the proper Tactics, etc. to have scored higher.

Given your score goal, you're likely going to have to make some serious improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections - and all of that work is going to take time. It's likely that you'll need at least 2 months of consistent, guided study to hit your score goal. Limiting yourself to just one month of study will likely limit how high you will score - and how strong you can make your overall Business School applications. This is meant to say that you need to remember your REAL goal - to get into your first-choice Business School (and having a strong-enough GMAT score is a necessary 'step' in achieving that goal).

1) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
2) What application deadlines are you currently facing?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi dcummins,

Starting off OG early in the prep phase is good though you must complement it with other prep materials also.

Manhattan and GMAT Club tests should be really helpful here.

Took the exam today and got 590 (Q44 V28, IR 7 - the only positive thing...). I have not studied much at all (6 days in total - 2 weekends and 2 weekdays), so I did not expect anything fantastic. It is pretty disappointing though. Am planning to re-take in a month (need to apply certain schools by that time), but working full time currently... and finding time to study is challenging..... Ideally, I would like to get to 680 ish.

Thank you in advance.

BTW - how long does it usually take for AWA score to come in? The unofficial result sheet says about 20 days.. but I wonder if it normally comes sooner?

1) I went through the OG review 2016 version about 50%.. Should I buy another book or continue with this?

Material which is must for your prep

OG 15 + New Questions from OG 16 + new questions from OG 17
OG Verbal Review and OG Quant review 15, 16, 17

2) Is it worth buying OG review verbal and quantitative supplemental guides?

Yes both are important for a good score

3) What other guides/books do you recommend?

Manhattan Guide Series
CR Critical Resoning bible

4) Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

1 Month for learning concepts and 15 days of practice and same with the verbal
when completed all the concepts learning and handsome practice
Take full lenght CATs, know your estimated score

Analyze the result with Correct/incorrect questions, pacing analysis
trace your mistakes and learn from them, make an error log to know
your mistakes in the previously attempted questions

Best CATs

1. Official GMAC (50+50$)
2. Manhattan GMAT (49$)
3. GMAT Club Quant CATs (80$)
4. Veritas CATs (49$ but you can buy at 15-20$ During sale period)

above Mock exams are as important as ranked

Hi cgkoffg ,

You should dedicate around 2 months to improve your score. It’s a good thing you have taken your GMAT once. You now know your weaknesses and work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for Three months, you are sure to achieve your goal. I believe you may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and Optimus Prep as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

Also for verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the verbal review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

Hope this helps. All the best.
