Hi everyone! I am writing this post to share my journey and relative success on the GMAT. I took the in-person exam and just received my score (720 Total, Q48, V42, IR 8, AWA 6). This result was achieved in roughly 4 months of studying (2 months of extremely light study followed by 2 months of intensive 6+ hour study days).
My Journey:
Before I started any studying, I watched a YouTube video of someone's process and road to 760. The first thing he recommended was to take a GMAT practice test to establish a baseline score. After taking the mock test, he advised to try Target Test Prep (they offer a free trial before you fully commit).
I took the baseline mock test and my result was pretty much what I expected it to be (590 Total, IR 1), as I was not familiar with any of the question types. I then signed up for the TTP free trial, and after a few days, I purchased the 4-month plan. The first 2 months of this plan were during the last two months of my undergrad and therefore were not fully utilized. In other words, I was not fully committed and did not study as much as I needed to. The last two months I fully committed as I had the whole summer to myself before I started full-time work. I completed 100% of TTP's material during this time. Scott, the founder of TTP, communicated with me afterward and truly wanted me to succeed on the GMAT.
After completing TTP, I started taking practice exams (roughly 2 per week). My scores were volatile, ranging from 640 to 720. Regardless, I did not have a ton of time left and wanted to take the exam ASAP. I signed up for the online exam and did decently well except I bombed the quant section (Q40, 650T). I was kind of crushed, but chalked it down to nerves, and signed up for another exam 3 days later (in-person). Although the in-person test was at 8am, I enjoyed this experience more because I felt like it was easier to focus in the testing room as opposed to the comfort of my own home. I was pretty happy to receive my new score (720T, Q48, V42, IR 8, AWA 6), but still wished I did a little better on quant. Oh well.
Why I Would Recommend TTP a Friend
TTP is great in terms of both content and structure. In terms of content, it does really well at providing a great deal of both breadth and depth. There are a ton of concepts to get through, but there are also a lot of ways to test each concept, which is why it is ideal to have a pretty deep understanding of something like number properties. Without this combination of both breadth and depth, my knowledge of any given tested subject would have been greatly hindered.
In terms of structure, I believe TTP is the most user-friendly. The calendar makes seeing your study goals and what you need to accomplish on a given day makes studying so easy. In-house explanations, videos, thousands of practice questions, and built-in error tracking, make TTP the perfect one-stop-shop for all things GMAT prep.
Overall, while I am extremely happy to be done with this test, TTP truly does maximize your GMAT potential and it made the journey infinitely smoother. I am satisfied to say the least!
