I think that if you are set on MBB and only MBB it will be worth the $250 bucks to try again. If you would consider some other firms, you might have a good shot. I have heard of 650 and above getting into consulting with a bit of extra effort and strong networking.
any tips on verbal. pl i would really appreciate if you guide me where i should study and practice verbal from. books and material which helped you immensely. i am fairly confident with quant and have always been but can't seem to go past 37 in verbal even though i got 35 in exam in gmat prep i got 37 once.
What's your weakness in verbal? Reading Comp? Sentence Correction? Critical Reasoning?

For me it Reading Comprehension. I finally got into a mindset where I looked forward to reading the passages, enjoyed what I read(no matter how dull it was), and ultimately did better. I also read BusinessWeek any chance I got to get some practice reading non-fiction, sometimes dry, material.

I think I went from V37 to V44 (first mock GMAT to actual) and a good portion was Reading Comprehension. I improved Sentence Correction by doing lots of practice problems and following tips from the Manhattan Guides.
well honestly i remember solving gmat advanced quant when i took the gmat in december and i did it with relative ease. all the questions at the back and yet i got 47 on quant and i was getting higher in mock tests. verbal- i have time issues. second i hate doing rc's and i tend to guess a lot when it comes to SC. i think i am fairly confident with critical reasoning but if there is something out there which would help me further i would appreciate it.

the books i have are gmat-all 8 books. og 13th edition. manhattan advanced quant. powerscore critical reasoning bible. all these i have practiced thoroughly. anything i should add to this?
i only want to retake it if i can manage a 720+. i don't see any point taking it and scoring a 690 or 700 as thats not a big step up from 670.

You hate RC huh? That sounded like me when I first started practicing. Try and get out of that mindset. Start looking forward to reading. With a change in attitude, I think you can improve the score. Also, read anything else that you can get your hands on, i.e. WSJ, Economist, BusinessWeek, etc.

That's what worked for me.

i do read a lot but just the passages in rc are really strange. but i will focus more on verbal and try to get at least 38 and for quant i will take mock tests every week and try to score 49. i really think i can do it. but its 2-3 months again and i am thinking whether that time would be better used to study for CFA or something else. i have already passed level 1 so its either level 2 or gmat again.

If consulting is the path for you, I would say GMAT...

thank you sir. i think its consulting or IB but in either case people value higher gmat scores over CFA right?

one question. i have a gmat of 670 with a even split. regardless of whether i get in or not should i retake my gmat for recruiters as i have heard when it comes to consulting jobs it is a must to have 720+ and i think a little more effort and i can get there.

Read as much as you can, and then brush up on the basic English grammar rules.

If you want to go into consulting, it would benefit you to go over 700. But like b-school application, GMAT score is only one component of the evaluation. Your strategic thinking, academic performance, and interpersonal skills also play a major role in landing a job in consulting.

This is helpful. What about for folks sitting at 690? Is that good enough? Is there a 700 threshold for MBB, formal or informal?

from the advice i am getting here and reading other forums and articles i think a 720+ is very very helpful. if you have a 690 and you score a 700 or a 710 it won't make much of a difference. now if you can completely rock it and i hope to do that and get a 740 or a 750 like people here then you will greatly improve your chances.

I met a black female who got McKinsey with a 680 GMAT from Duke. She had very strong social skills and prior experience. All the white/asian guys who got MBB had 720+ plus (though not as strong of social skills as I would've expected). Much like business schools, consulting firms want a diverse class, so if you're part of a group that under-represented in consulting you can get in with a slightly lower GMAT. If you're from an over represented group, with average social skills, and average work experience, I probably wouldn't go through recruiting with sub 700 scores.

Dan Ariely will be offering "Beginners Guide to Irrational Behavior" on Coursera for the second time, starting 11th March. I took it last year, and it is probably the best course I have taken till date. Heck, it is definitely the best course, by a country mile.

It is free and the coursework is very intriguing. If you are remotely interested in behavioral economics/psychology, definitely try it out.

myleo, Manhattan GMAT hosts online review sessions called "Thursdays with Ron." The sessions are really good at teaching you the rules that the GMAT tests for verbal, I would highly recommend them.

thank you. I would definitely check it out. i have done their cat's and their books are pretty good but never checked that out. i will do that now. someone told me to take kaplan classes but they are expensive. its like $2,000 and its mostly for people who are scoring 450 or so and hence i find it useless considering i score 680-700 on my mock tests,

I was probably scoring 700-710 on practice tests and got a 680 my first try. After listening to a lot of the archived sessions I was getting around a 730-740 on practice tests and ended up with a 710. I think my official scores were lower cause I would get stressed out on test day. The "Thursday with Ron" sessions helped me a lot with sentence correction.
