I've also noticed that in most cases, if the quant and verbal score are in the same percentile range, then the overall score will be in the next percentile range.
e.g. In my real GMAT I scored an 82 percentile in quant and 89 percentile in verbal. Since both the scores are in the 80 percentile range, my total score was in the next percentile range (92 percentile)

I don't think that's right. It all depends. It's much harder to score in a higher percentile on both than just one, so your overall percentile is higher. I'd just leave it at that.
