Have been preparing on and off for the past 4 months while working a FT job that requires me to travel .
Have been comfortable in practice exams and GMAT prep . Although I have failed to recreate test conditions while taking the practice tests due to paucity of complete block of time .
Gave GMAT yesterday , and what a wake up call . Attempted verbal first and everything was going great until the 15 th question when I couldn’t make sense of a CR question. And boy was there panic . Before I knew I had lost all time advantage I had gained . But I was doing well so was met with a 700 level RC next. And then it all went downhill , options did not make sense even after 5 readings of the question . More panic 8 questions left and 7 minutes remained . More panic as I hit another CR that I couldn’t decipher . Ended up with 30 seconds for last two questions each.
Calmed down a bit drank some cold water in the break . 2 easy questions and then BAM a question that with big numbers and a lot of calculation if I solved it my way. Tried to think of a different way couldn’t , and now too late to solve with the length calculations . Guess and move on . Okay sailing for the next 10-12 questions . Again met by a type of question never seen before. 5 lines plus a diagram to accompany and it was a DS question. I could not even understand the question. I somehow found myself to be behind in time again . Again rushed through the last 10 in 15 mins .
Will be giving again , as hopefully this is the worst I could do . Disappointed yes but also quite hopeful that if I can get my emotions under control il be able to do better .
Also The markers at the centre kept drying up if not in use for 10 seconds then every time I had to use had to waste a couple of seconds to get it working again on every question. What is it with centres trying to make such a high pressure situation worse ?
EDIT - I know this is not how the algorithm works but any idea how many questions away I was from a 42 in Verbal ?
