Hello all,
I was hoping some of you guys could give me your opinion on this. I recently took the GMAT and got a 650 (44Q/36V). I know that isn't a barn buster score, and I will be taking it again, however I ended up getting an 8 on IR and 5.5 on AWA. I know that adcoms aren't really looking at these, but I heard they might be increasing. Will the perfect 8 IR "boost" my overall GMAT opinion by schools? Obviously for anyone who has taken the GMAT we all know that the IR is definitely more "real world" and useful than knowing the properties of a triangle. So just curious your thoughts. Im hoping adcoms will say "hmm not 650 not great but in our 80% range and the 8 IR helps a bit".
Additional academic background. I have a overall 4.0 GPA from my BBA in finance from undergrad, and work at Merrill as an advisor and analyst. So my hope is that both those calm some of the "not strong in quant" injections a little at least.
Thanks!
Hi
NJackson40 - sorry to hear about the mixed experience with this. Yes the 8 is nice, but they are not really doing apples to apples on just the IR score at this point. And it has a ways to go in terms of being an established predictive variable for performance in an MBA program. Sorry I can't be more encouraging but the fact is you would be better suited to go and get your 49+ in quant than try to sell your IR and AWA to the adcom. If the GMAT is not going well, try the GRE, but provide some evidence here. Yes, the fact that you work for Merrill is good, but all the more reason for them to expect you to do well.
