Hello fellow aspirants,
For context, My wife and I have been riding the GMAT bandwagon and we were preparing for it since the last 3 months. We were using the same material and spending approximately the same time on preparation. I have already cleared exams for Probationary Officer at a public sector bank and currently work for the Indian Taxation Department after clearing SSC Combined Graduate Level exam 2014 (My wife and I prepared, appeared for and aced this exam together). I'm giving this context to justify that I am fairly seasoned in terms of competetive exams.
I am writing this post to share my GMAT Enhanced Online experience. My wife and I took the exam on the same day, from the same house, with the same internet connection and on the same PC just 2 hours apart. While my wife had the perfect experience, I had a torrid time with the Examity platform.
My wife took the exam first and scored a
750. I used to score roughly 20 fewer points than her in the official mocks. I had scored a 730 and 740 in official mocks 5 and 6 respectively. After her exam and after hearing her experience, I felt relaxed. At worst, I was hoping for a 720+.
Maybe it was my cursed luck, maybe it was the disturbances caused by the technical issues I faced or may it was something beyond my understanding but I ended up scoring a meagre
670.
To begin with, my proctor started my check-in process late. While confimring to her that I understand the rules and regulations, she just stopped speaking. She was there in the meeting but would not reply to my chat box messages or due to some technical reason at her end I just couldn't hear her voice. After 10 minutes of struggling and contacting customer care via chat and 3 meeting links later, I was allotted a different proctor and went through the whole check in process again. I way 35-40 mins past my scheduled time by now and I was frustrated and nervous.
Quant Section, 1st question, I was just not able to comprehend the question due to this whole ordeal. I took 8 minutes for the first three questions and probably got them wrong. I consciously tried to brush off my emotions and focus on the exam after this but ended up with a Q45. I had never scored less than Q48 in my official mocks.
Verbal Section, with 32 minutes and 17 questions remaining, the examity portal simply crashed. I was doing relatively well till this point, but again I got anxious and after a delay, the proctor restrored the exam. I was too nervous to notice if the time had paused or not. I rushed through the remaining questions and scored a V36. What? I had scored a V42 in my last official mock.
By this time, I knew that I couldn't perform to my capability and just completed the exam for the sake of it.
I have written to the GMAT customer care to allow me to retake the exam because of the technical difficulties I faced. I am not sure if they will consider it but I feel that an exam that charges 20K INR(250$) should be professional enough to assess the capability of the candidate. Maybe I should have held on to my nerve better and focussed better but I thought this pre-requisite was for the questions and not for technical difficulties.
Please let me know what you guys think!! Also if anyone has any input on whether my plea for retaking the exam will be considered or had a similar experience, please comment.
For the pros out there, should I invest time and money to retake the exam in case the customer care does not agree to my request?
