I just gave my GMAT exam yesterday and during the paper only I knew I haven't performed as per my skill level and as per my mock performances. Something about the test day threw me off my game. My quant section went fairly well. But during the verbal something about the noise cancelling headphone along with staring at the screen reading the data felt like I'm in a void and I was unable to comprehend anything, and I was thrown off my game. which is something I can improve. My Verbal performance then affected my DI performance.
My Advice to everyone would be to try and emulate the test center environment as much as you can (wear noise cancellation headphones) while giving the mocks. Which is something I didn't do as there many things that can throw you off your game from small things like the marker pen ink drying up to one zoning out in between the test.

Was it mandatory to wear noise cancellation headphones during the exam at the test center? I am planning to not use them during my test in the coming month.

No it wasn’t mandatory, but there were other people giving tests at the center (for my case it was other than gmat) and some tests have an audio video component too, so I thought it was best if I use the headphones. Idk maybe you can take a call on the spot based on your test center environment.
