Hi fthompson,

Another option, besides using those books, would be to check out a GMAT-focused self-study course. Plenty have been reviewed here on GMAT Clubk, so you can see what has worked well for other students.

Hi! I'm starting my GMAT study journey and I already have Manhattan books from a family member (5th edition). Please may I ask a couple of questions:

- Are my books outdated, should I buy the new set?
- By reading the new books description on amazon, they mention that it's adapted for GMAT Focus and they'll tell you exactly which sections became irrelevant and we could skip. If the answer to the question above is "no", can you advise on the parts of the book to skip?

Thanks!
Hi! You can just skip Sentence Correction and use Manhattan guides for RC and CR - they are the best for that. For quant and DI, I would recommend you to finish OG and then look elsewhere (if required).

Your Manhattan books from the 5th edition should still be useful for GMAT preparation. While there may be some updates in newer editions, the core concepts remain relevant. However, if you're interested in GMAT Focus-specific guidance, it might be worth checking out the newer editions to see the sections they recommend skipping. Overall, you can still use your current books effectively for your study journey. Good luck!
