Have you been studying following the plan for 12 weeks? Sorry if it’s a silly question but just trying to understand how many weeks you’ve been working on the GMAT prep.

Hi GMATNinja ! Thank you very much for posting these - I've found these study plans extremely helpful. I just took the practice test #4 and #5 and scored below a 660 even though I was scoring in the 700s for #1-3. What do you think is happening? I'm a bit bummed considering I thought I was so close to being finished.

Crap, sorry to hear the bad news, jm102xh.

My first thought is that this sort of thing is incredibly common. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of test-takers have some sort of score drop in the later stages of their prep. It's obviously not a fun thing to experience, but in case it helps at all: you're DEFINITELY not alone.

I would start with the assumption that you missed a significant number of questions that you would normally answer correctly. That sounds obvious enough, but sometimes test-takers start looking too hard for obscure weaknesses. It sounds like your previous scores are telling us that your skills are fine (depending on your exact score goals), but on the last couple of tests, you struggled with execution and consistency for one reason or another. I doubt that you suddenly lost your reading or quant skills, but I'd be willing to bet that you started rushing, or you got anxious, or you didn't recheck your work, or you changed your approach in some other way that led to unnecessary mistakes.

I obviously can't know what, exactly, you're doing wrong, but maybe this article will help a bit? It focuses on dropoffs from your practice tests to your actual exam, but the same general ideas still apply in your current situation.

I hope that helps a bit, and keep us posted on everything!
