Hi Guys,

I was just wondering whether anyone had a GMAT study plan for people stuck around 640/650 mark and can’t seem to go up to a 700+ score. I did my gmat and got Q47 V30 and was wondering whether there is someone who put online a detailed plan of what to study/when/from which material source etc etc…

Thanks in advance for all the help, greatly appreciated.

Hi Tazzo82,

You haven't provided much information about how you've been studying, but the problem you're describing actually happens to many Test Takers who use a "book heavy" study approach. Even the best books are limited in what they can teach you; they also can't force you to approach questions in a certain way and their explanations are often one-sided. To earn a much higher GMAT score, you will likely find it necessary to invest in some new non-book study materials.

1) When did you take the Official GMAT?
2) When was the last time you took a FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) and how did you score?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

last full time CAT was in December official one Q47 V30. I need to improve my verbal. I would like to put 1.5 per day Monday to Thursday and 3 hours Friday and 10 hours split between Saturday and Sunday.

Hi Tazzo82,

If it's been two months since you've taken any kind of Test (the Official GMAT or a practice CAT), then you should plan to take a NEW, FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon so that we can get a sense of your current skills. Once you have that score result, you should report back here (or you can contact me directly).

The Schools that you've named are all highly-competitive and those types of Schools tend to place a greater emphasis on the Quant Scaled Scores of its applicants. As such, while you have a much greater opportunity to pick up points in the Verbal section than in the Quant section, raising your Quant score to a Q49+ would likely also benefit your overall application. By extension, you'll likely have to train to improve in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. If you focused your studies exclusively on the Verbal section, then you could conceivably hit your goal score in a month. However, since you've been studying for 8 months (off and on), it's likely that you've developed some 'bad habits' that will take time to fix (and replace with new 'good habits') - so you will likely need another 1-2 months of consistent, guided study to get to that level.
