GMAT Superscore Is Live - How It Works, 5 Free Score Sends

Question

GMAT Superscore is live. GMAC announced it on 15 June 2026 and switched it on this month, and vouchers for free score sends started landing in inboxes this week. I received mine today, which is what prompted this post.

If you have taken the GMAT Focus Edition more than once, your Superscore already exists. It was calculated automatically, you did not have to opt in, and it is already sitting on your Official Score Report.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS

GMAC takes your highest Quant, your highest Verbal, and your highest Data Insights across all your valid attempts, even when those three came from three different sittings, and combines them into one total on the same 205 to 805 scale.

Automatic and free. No request, no fee, no action needed on your part.
Test centre and online attempts both count. There is no distinction between the two.
Ties go to the most recent attempt. If your best Verbal is identical on two sittings, GMAC uses the section score from the later one. This makes no difference to the number, though it does affect which attempt is cited.
It appears in two places. Your mba.com account, and as an additional data point on Official Score Reports sent to programs.

A worked example

That is 30 points above the better of the two sittings, from two perfectly ordinary attempts where the candidate simply peaked in different sections on different days. GMAC's own historical data puts the typical gain between a first attempt and a Superscore at 20 to 50 points.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED

This is where most of the confusion is going to come from.

GMAT 10th Edition (Classic) scores do not count. Focus Edition attempts only. If your 740 was on the old exam, it plays no part in this.
Cancelled scores do not count.
Expired scores do not count. Please note that this is not yet a live problem, because Focus Edition scores only begin expiring in 2028. GMAC has said it is still working out the policy for what happens when a section score used in a Superscore expires.
There is no Executive Assessment equivalent. GMAC has confirmed no plans to introduce one.

THE PERCENTILE CATCH

This is the single most important thing in this post, and it is the detail most people are going to miss.

Your Superscore does not have a percentile. GMAC states this directly. The scaled total is reported on the 205 to 805 scale with no percentile ranking attached to it. Your individual section scores keep their percentiles, and the single-attempt total you choose to send keeps its percentile, but the Superscore itself arrives as a bare number.

The reason this matters is practical. A 655 single-sitting score means the 90th percentile, and everyone in admissions knows how to read that. A 655 Superscore means 655, and nothing else. Whether an adcom mentally maps it onto the single-sitting table is entirely up to them.

The second half of that same point is easy to miss. A Superscore is never sent on its own. It always travels alongside a full single-attempt score that you select, so schools continue to see a complete individual sitting no matter what. It is added to the picture rather than replacing anything.

Working out your own Superscore

There is nothing special to calculate. A Superscore uses the same three sections and the same 205 to 805 scale as any other total, so the GMAT Club Score Calculator already does the job. Enter your highest Quant, your highest Verbal, and your highest Data Insights, taken from whichever attempts produced them, and the total it returns is your Superscore. We are updating that calculator with the August 2026 percentiles shortly.

Please note that the percentile the calculator shows you does not apply. It is the percentile for that total as a single-sitting score, which is a useful reference point and nothing more. Do not put it on an application or a resume as your Superscore percentile, because no such figure exists.

THE 5 FREE SCORE SENDS - READ THE CONDITIONS

Alongside the launch, GMAC is issuing vouchers for five complimentary Additional Score Reports so you can send your updated report, Superscore included, to five programs. If you have taken the Focus Edition, check the inbox tied to your mba.com account.

The conditions are strict and the deadline is close, so read these before you go anywhere near the checkout.

All five in a single transaction. You have to select all five programmes at once and enter the voucher code at checkout. There is no partial redemption and no coming back later for the remaining sends. If you use it for three schools, the other two are gone.
The code expires 31 August 2026. That is roughly two weeks from this post, and it lands right in the middle of Round 1 preparation.
It is tied to you. Only the candidate it was issued to can use it. Codes are not transferable, so please do not post asking for a spare or offering yours.
The Superscore goes in addition to the individual attempt scores you select. Sending the report does not hide any sitting.

The single-transaction rule is the one that is going to catch people out. If your school list is not finalised, work it out on paper before you log in, because you only get one attempt at spending it.

DO SCHOOLS ACTUALLY ACCEPT IT

This is unsettled, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.

GMAC has made the Superscore available to programmes as an additional data point. What each programme does with it is a separate decision, and policies are still being announced. Some schools have already stated a position publicly and others have said nothing at all. Until a programme you are applying to says explicitly that it considers Superscores, the safe assumption is that it does not.

GMAC has also said it plans to run validity studies with business schools to test how well Superscores predict academic performance. Prior research from ACT and the College Board found superscores to be stronger predictors than single composite scores, which is the argument GMAC is leaning on.

If you hear a firm answer from one of your target schools, post it in this thread. A running list of confirmed school positions would be worth more to this community than any amount of speculation, and I will keep the top of this post updated with whatever gets confirmed below.

DOES THIS CHANGE HOW YOU SHOULD PREPARE

GMAC's own guidance is that it should not, and that guidance is worth taking seriously rather than treating as boilerplate.

The advice is to keep aiming for your best Section and Total scores on every attempt. The reasoning is straightforward. Every Superscore is accompanied by a single-attempt score, so a strategy of deliberately tanking two sections to farm one of them still produces a weak single sitting for the adcom to look at, and it costs you the time and the exam fee for extra attempts.

Where it genuinely changes things is at the margin. If you are sitting on a solid score with one section that clearly underperformed the other two, a targeted retake is now worth more than it was a month ago, because your strong sections are banked and you only need the one to move.

WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK

Log in to mba.com and look at your Superscore. It is already there.
Check the email tied to that account for a voucher code.
If you have one, finalise your list of five programmes before you start the transaction.
Redeem before 31 August 2026.
Check each target school's stated policy rather than assuming, and post what you find below.
