If x and y are the positive integers, Is x>y?
1) x^2 +12 = 13
x^2 = 1
x = +/-1 but as per the question, x and y are positive integers, hence x = 1
1 is the smallest positive integer, hence 1 can never be greater than any other positive integer
Hence, we can say than x is NOT greater than y.

SUFFICIENT


2) y is a multiple of 9
y can be 9, 18, 27...
x is NOT known.
NOT SUFFICIENT.

Answer A

Not sure i follow statement 1 reasoning. Y could be 1 aswell? which makes insufficient information? Pls help.

Solution:


(1) x^2= 1

x could be +1 or -1

Question tells us that x and y are positive integers, thus x=1
Well, honestly I don't think this is a clear question because:
1. If x>y implies that x is different from y means that y is bigger than x thus (1) is sufficient
2. If x>y doesn't implies it means that x could be >= y so (1) is not sufficient.


(2) clearly insufficient.

Together.
If we consider 2. in statement 1 and statement 2 they are sufficient.

So the answer could be A or C
